Hi, I’m sorry for the intrusion here b/c my comment is not related to the Yale decisions in particular, but about college apps in general.
I have a physical disability (I personally am against disclosing the specifics) and I was wondering if this could serve as a “hook” or central theme of my application. I still have about 3 more years of high school, and I am definitely in the process of fine-tuning my ECs, but I am interested in volunteering at an organization that caters to the physical disability I have (I will volunteer this March when I am old enough!), and I would like to find out ways to advocate for people with this disability (suggestions would be great!)
I consider myself to have decent stats to eventually reach the bench marks of prestigious colleges, although it’s hard to determine since I have many years to go (top 1% in competitive hs, 4.0 UW GPA etc.) I was just puzzled on whether I could write a common app essay on my disability without it being disadvantageous to me.
@soccergirl2020 my daughter just submitted her letter of continued interest last night. It may be on the later side, but I know of other students for other schools that didn’t submit theirs until recently, also. Due to lack of knowledge on where to send it, she submitted it in her update application part of the portal as an attachment.
@maddy09 No I didn’t receive an interview. For my other schools I got interviews but for Yale it’s nothing. It’s a little unfortunate because I was hoping to get one because I like talking to/meeting new people but I understand that the interview isn’t really a huge part of the application especially in comparison to other more important components to the application. If we get one, AWESOME! If we don’t, it’s not the end of the world. There are many people who are admitted who don’t get an interview. Not getting one doesn’t in anyway form or shape indicate you’ve been rejected or will be. So don’t stress too much about it
@maddy09
Yeah you’re welcome
I got interviews for Swarthmore and Bowdoin but it’s only because I signed up for one, like you’re supposed to for those schools specifically. I really enjoyed my Swarthmore interview. My interviewer was really chill and it was very much like a conversation and I felt like I could freely express myself.
It was in person too and at my favorite bookstore so that made the interview all the more comfortable.
My Bowdoin interview was also good. It was via FaceTime but my interviewer was more strict with his questions. I’d say this one was mediocre only because I rambled a bit and didn’t necessarily get to the main point particularly when it came to my academic interest which is annoying to look back at but it’s something I can always learn from.
I just got an interview for Penn which is via phone call and will be happening next week so I’m pretty excited
For Brown I will be getting one because I was given the option to either have a group interview (where multiple prospective Brown students are gathered and interviewed one by one). The option was a little odd to me and almost a little uncomfortable. I didn’t like the idea of grouped together with multiple people and having to wait my turn to be interviewed. It’d just make me more nervous. Plus I wouldn’t have been able to make it due to a busy schedule. So I chose the alternative which was to have a regular, individual interview. Brown got back to me and said I’ll be contacted by an interviewer soon but so far I’m still waiting. XD
@BAMMBI@maddy09@Cly2019 My daughter applied RD and she has a Skype interview tomorrow. I think she was contacted to set it up about a week ago.
But she has other schools she thought she’d get an interview with and hasn’t heard a peep - try not to stress too much over it - chances are the reasons behind it have nothing to do with you or the strength your application! Best of luck to you all!
So must we submit a letter of continued interest to be realistically considered? Are we getting trashed if we don’t? I understand that the website says no, but they also say there are no score cutoffs…
RD applicant here! I’m starting to get a little worried because I applied to 4 ivies and other selective schools in the RD round and I have only had my Brown interview… nobody else has reached out (besides Georgetown which was way back in October and UofR which I coordinated myself). I’m sorta worried because you would think based on my location close to a city that I wouldn’t have trouble getting an interview…
I wouldn’t worry to much guys. Most interviews go on from January to February so you still have a lot of time left, and again, even if you don’t get an interview it doesn’t mean that you got rejected.
It’s based off location. The people who manage interview invites are not the people reading your application. If you live in the UK you’ll probably get an invite due to the insane amount of US college alum resident there, but if you live in Mongolia you probably won’t as there won’t be many, if any, Yale alumni there.
I recently got contacted for a Yale virtual interview with a senior at Yale. No one that I know of in Colombia has been contacted by Yale for a virtual interview or received an in person interview, since there are few alumni. Is this a good sign? Or should I not overthink it so much? I got deferred EA and I’m just wondering why I got an interview now and not before. I got the email like the day after I sent my LOCI.
My D has done interviews with Cornell, Harvard, Penn, and just got an email about Princeton, nothing from Yale or MIT, but I understand Yale does them thru Feb, MIT completes them by Feb2. Good luck everyone! Also, these interviews were great, compared to the disaster interview out of Stanford (EA).
@west2east20 My DS has different experience from your D. He has done interviews with Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT but not Harvard. I thought he will get, at least, an interview request from Harvard but… BTW, do you know when is the latest date for RD applicants to get Harvard interviews?
