I am an upcoming senior this year. I have taken the ACT 4 times, 3 on my own and 1 on a required state testing day. I made a 29 with a 20 on writing, a 30, then a 34, and lastly a 30 with 6 on writing, in that order. Will such a large drop look bad? And, because Yale requires all scores to be sent, will they consider 34 my highest even though it does not have a writing score? I will be taking the ACT with writing one more time unless I am advised not to. I plan on taking the SAT also because I had a high PSAT score and I need to take subject tests anyway.
On Yale’s website, in response to a question about why do all scores have to be submitted the answer was
A.An applicant’s testing history provides useful contextual information to the admissions committee. With a full testing history, the committee is able to look at a student’s highest officially reported score on each section of the SAT, the highest individual SAT Subject Tests, and/or the highest ACT Plus Writing composite score.
check out what they say generally https://admissions.yale.edu/faq/standardized-testing
We were told they want all scores but will focus on the highest score. 34 is a very good score. Good luck
You may have an issue. Yale requires the writing section and the problem is your 34 is from a test without writing. I asked Yale about this issue approximately three years ago and the answer I got was that Yale will not use the scores on an ACT without writing to determine admission even though you submit another ACT with writing. Whether that position has changed since then I do not know so you might want to ask Yale to tell you…
This is actually devastating, haha. Thank you for the replies.
