I got a call from a Debra Johns of Yale's admissions office a few weeks ago from one of the asking for a third letter of recommendation. They claimed that a letter from one of my adviser/teachers wasn't technically a teacher, and that they would like a third letter (the details the caller gave indicated that she had read both letters).

Obviously, none of us can see into the admissions process, but I was wondering if this could be cautiously taken as a good sign. If they thought I had absolutely no chance of admission, why request a second letter? On the other hand, if I were obviously admitted, why request a second letter? Just curious to hear your thoughts...
