Yale Class of 2016 RD Discussion Thread

@ermsepermsy: yeah, that’s how most people react. LOL Indian, italian, and chinese food…attempting to learn greek. Love blueberry pie! never tried to make it myself though

Theorizing that CC is going to be massively blocked tomorrow, I want to wish everyone amazing bouts of good luck!

misspumpkin, that’s hilarious  about rubber ducks and all that

We’re a little over 16 hours out now, so best of luck, everyone!!

sorry if this has already been answered, but at what time do the decisions come out?

5 PM Eastern

benfranklin1,

Passion was one my top three. It’s a great feeling and quality but I have learned to be very careful of it so nobody take advantage of it.

Like minds…all the very best to you in college. Love Yale but the odds are very much stacked against me. Small public school in a small town so the offerings are not like what many would get in a big city or private schools.

Although I confident and have the courage to take the chance if given, Yale is not going after small town small public school kids. That being said I did have a 2% chance. As small as that may be it’s a chance. It’s all good. Either way I can say I did it.

Can’t sleep. Just found out I got wait listed at Bowdoin yesterday so I’m extra nervous about Yale. I didn’t like Bowdoin too much though…only applied because my dad really wanted me to go there. I’ve always been genuinely excited about Yale, so hopefully things will be different. 11 hours to go.

Ooooh…**** timezones! I missed all the cool convo while I was kickboxing in my dreams…

Ok, so I HAVE to answer those questions. here goes:

  1. Princeton! It’s my number 1 actually, but since I haven’t really been to any of these schools, I don’t feel like I’m in a position to decide that yet!
  2. No, thank God!
  3. I dropped out of school to work, study for the SATs and apply to the Ivy League…simply because I wouldn’t have had the flexibility to do that if I had joined school. Still giving my A-levels via self-study, and no false-pretense about how ‘well’ that’s going!
  4. I’m still afraid of the evil witch in Snow White…damn that first-ever animated movie was pure HORROR…and I want to take up theatre as an EC in college. I have zero experience in that area, save for a short/informal cameo or two…but I love the visual arts.
  5. Spot
  6. Invest it in my dream ‘project’ =D
  7. A-level student here! (Yep, I know British curriculum is soo ancient history for most of you) but if I were to choose a subject, close my eyes and scream ECONOMICS!
  8. Nope. I’m quite self-conscious, but I’m learning to deal with it =D
  9. For someone else. I know it sounds too cliche, but it’s another one of my crazy fears…to die in a way that wouldn’t matter!
  10. Hiding my expressions, lying…and I’m too trusting of people, and apparently naive too. Although sometimes I don’t really get why that’s a bad thing
  11. Appreciating people- I LOVE discovering unique, interesting and lovable things about people. I love appreciating their creativity and individuality. It makes my world bright and beautiful.
Other than that- doing crazy things and making crazy, spontaneous decisions, and writing- my true passion =D

Whew! Wasn’t that like a mini-autobiography?

Any btw ermsypermsy- thanks for this wonderful outlet. I’m so glad to have met and gotten to know a bit about my prospective class of 2016. Its been my rock through these anxious times when I felt there was no once else who could truly understand my anxiety! Best of luck to all of you with the bottom of my heart.

I told myself that I got rejected so that I can get used to the idea of the worst case scenario. Then if I am accepted then I will be pleasantly surprised :)

UGH it makes me nauseous

@RUkidding; I completely understand what you’re talking about, but Yale does need those select students who attend small town schools! I’m wishing you the best of luck. The odds are extremely against me in terms of Race, School type, etc… But I guess all I can do is hope for the best and hope that the Yale adcoms see in me what my teachers and friends see in me. And if they don’t, I can never go wrong with full tuition at Case… Might not be ideal, but I can always make the best of it. Having the Naval Academy as your second option is a great place, and from what I can tell you will become an extremely successful person either way.

I wish you best of luck and hope to see you on campus next year :)

It’s interesting that you say that you need to be careful with passion so that people don’t take advantage of it. What do you mean by that?

RUKidding: ****. I went to a crappy high school (now labeled “persistently low achieving”) in the middle of bum nowhere in Nebraska. White, small town, public school, grew up in the suburbs. AP science classes were a myth because ‘science is a religion.’ Know what that’s called here? DIVERSITY. There are SO MANY PEOPLE from huge cities at these schools (case in point: my closest group of friends are all from NYC, DC, LA, Houston, or San Francisco) that admissions officers flip their **** if they find qualified students from obscure places. I’d say that it actually worked in my favor (ergo it will work in yours as well).

DON’T COUNT YOURSELVES OUT BEFORE YOU EVEN OPEN YOUR ADMISSIONS DECISION.

HAHAHA didn’t realize college confidential censored. Pardon my language, please, and fill in the stars however you feel appropriate.

Dream schools other than Yale?
Mmm… I guess Harvard, Princeton and Brown.

Ever broken a bone? / Got a cool story about it?
Yes, while snowboarding: I fell (twice). My instructor had to top-up his phone credit before he could call for help, and, when the snowmobile arrived, I had to sit on the back and cling to the safety bar with my good arm, while the driver chose to go the ‘touristic route’, over thin, rocky and very steep paths. When I arrived at the hospital, nobody spoke English, only German with a weird Swiss accent I did not understand. Good thing: I didn’t have to cycle to school for six weeks! :)

Something interesting about you
I have some serious balance issues; I drop A LOT of stuff and I trip all the time. It’s horrible for me, but very amusing for bystanders.

A secret. It doesn’t have to be major. But remember that none of us will ever know who the others are.
I secretly would LOVE to own a pet giraffe ;)

If you had a pet giraffe, what would you name it?
Bill!

You just got a thousand dollars. What do you do with it?
Save it for when I need it - and probably by a new pair of Frye boots ;)

Favorite AP course.
We don’t have AP courses in the Netherlands; my favorite subject would be either art, math or history (strange combination, I know).

Do you consider yourself attractive?
I’m smokin’. And very sarcastic right now.

What, in your opinion, is the most macho way to die?
Wreck a few cars, run and shoot at a lot of random bad guys, be chased to the top of a skyscraper, then jump of it screaming ‘You’ll never catch me alive!’ (which, of course, they wouldn’t, since you’d be dead).
and lastly,

Three things you’re terrible at
Washing my hair (I always manage to get more shampoo in my eyes and mouth than in my hair), cleaning my room (or even making sure the floor is visible) and singing (though I love to sing along with my IPod).

Mail just came, and… nothing. I guess I will have to wait till 2:00pm

Georgetown, Boston College, Brown

I broke my toe playing chess… looonnggg storry

AP bio by far
