I plan on going skiing and visiting my family!

And considering I’ll probably get deferred/rejected, I will be finalizing the rest of my apps…

I’m jealous of all of you who are going to warmer places!

@canadian2013 its taking a while for real winter to come along, we’ve only had some frost and some snow, when it gets knee high i’ll probably rediscover my childhood and go play in the snow- its been too long !

Rejected: Something Coldplay, like everyone else has already mentioned. Or Radiohead - High and Dry or No Surprises. Yeah, Radiohead would be good.
Deferred: From by Dr. Dog, Lonely Boy by The Black Keys (“Oooooh ooh oh ohhh, I’ve got a love that keeps me waiting” haha!).
Accepted: Something upbeat, most likely by The Strokes (You Only Live Once, maybe? Or Last Nite)

captainbrohab, sounds like a good book! Ironically, I’ve never read The Hobbit because in middle school, I thought it was too confusing a book and never read it at all. And I’ve never read it in high school because I haven’t had the time.

Coldplay is genius.

Yeah, Columbia and Dartmouth seem to be a little harsher this year. That’s just great for us, isn’t it.

I don’t really see anything more or less harsh than in past decision threads, tbh.

Though you can be sure they will be scared out of their wits and applying everywhere come the RD cycle.

Good luck everyone! ^.^ Btw, I love that someone other than me is thinking about what they’ll play if accepted/deferred/rejected. (I did’t apply to Yale, I’m just creeping on you all lol)

The playlist (a bit tongue-in-cheek, I admit)

Rejected: Modest Mouse- Float On, Kaiser Chiefs- Every Day I Love You Less and Less, The Strokes- I can’t win

Deferred: The Strokes- Someday, Arctic Monkeys- Settle for a Draw

Accepted: The Killers- On Top, something by Vampire Weekend

I left out the Coldplay…

Float On’s definitely a good choice. I’ve always wondered about the similarity of that song to Lupe Fiasco’s “Show Goes On”.

I like both versions.

@cantconcentrate I liked it better than the Lord of the Rings books to be honest. Lol I “read” it in 4th grade and then actually understood it later on but its pretty good. I mean Tolkien is a bit long winded overall so if that’s not your style I totally get it, but yeah I like movies so I’m pretty excited either way :)

Also:

Accepted: America F*** Yeah
Deferred: A Horse with No Name
Rejected: Why Can’t We Be Friends

[The Show Goes On (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](The Show Goes On (song) - Wikipedia)

Huh. So being a blatant rip off of the original song is of no particular salience.

Damn you, record companies! Damn you!

@Philovitist The saddest part is when people don’t admit/realize that it is a copy of Float On. I’ve had people insist that Float On copied this song O.o I just wish more people knew Modest Mouse. I mean they are famous, but I think they are A LOT better than the number of fans they have… (e.g. Lupe Fiasco has over 3 million likes on FB, whereas Modest Mouse only has around 1 million)

captainbrohab, I’ll definitely look into it!

Accepted: Gangnam Style
Deferred: The Scientist
Rejected: Hopelessly Devoted to You

There’s also the irony that Modest Mouse’s (arguably) worst album is what made them famous… then again, if it wasn’t for the singles that went mainstream like ‘Float On’ and ‘Dashboard’ I probably would’ve never heard them. The odd world of indie music.

It’s like that with Passion Pit, too. And Miike Snow. The best songs they make aren’t the ones that get famous.

The oddest part is that I heard of Modest Mouse from the soundtrack to Accepted (@CantConcentrate strikes again!) a few years back after watching the movie. It was Gravity Rides Everything and I remember thinking they were going to have a VERY different sound than they ended up actually having, especially as they made more and more “mainstream” content. I still think they are really good, but their older-middleish stuff (Third Planet, Gravity Rides Everything, etc.) and their old stuff (Dramamine, etc.) is quite different. By far though, I think they have the best album titles!

I can’t say I’ve paid much attention to Modest Mouse’s other albums. From what I’ve heard so far, they do seem better.

Sigh. It’s going to really hurt to see how the dominoes fall when the 14th comes. It’s not that I’m afraid of being rejected (I’ll be okay either way). But the vast majority of us are going to be unlucky. I don’t think I’ll ever forget my passing time here on this forum. You guys are really cool. I don’t know anyone irl with music preferences anything like mine. ^_^

The idea of seeing any of you disappointed affects me emotionally a lot more than the idea of being rejected. It gives me a headache. All of you deserve the college of your choice. I sincerely hope that things go well for you.

On a somewhat related note, this The Moon and Antarctica album is totally going on my Reject Playlist.

Accepted:
All Day and All of the Night - The Kinks

Deferred:
I’m Not Losing Sleep - David Bowie
Anyone Else But You - The Moldy Peaches

Rejected:
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? - Moby
She’s A Rejecter - Of Montreal
Loser - Beck
Second Chance or mb Tomorrow Has To Wait - PB&J
Twice - Little Dragon

Alright I have wallowing and angry alternatives for both deferred and rejected. Is anyone compiling these? I’m loving some of the suggestions hah.

Accepted:
Today - Smashing Pumpkins
Tenderness - General Public
Hands on the Wheel - ScHoolboy Q + A$SP Rocky
Strange - Galaxie 500

Deferred/Rejected: (since deferral is only different from rejection 2% of the time, I consider them to be the same)
Blessed - ScHoolboy Q (feat Kendrick Lamar) (seriously guys, listen to this if you get bad news. Really puts things in perspective)
Bullet with Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins
Black - Pearl Jam
re: stacks - Bon Iver
