When is it too late for an interview? At what point can I give up hope?
@Shayyyyy Doesn’t Yale receive ACT scores electronically, though? When the ACT was dealing with the September scores delay, it said on the webpage that the schools that receive the scores electronically should “receive them the same day” (or something like that).
@aposnova Well I didn’t even know there was a September scores delay… Yes the scores were sent electronically, but it’s still possible for Yale to not receive the scores sent out in October.
Can I continue to apply to other schools under RD or do I have to wait until I receive a decision ?
@Shayyyyy well, even if it takes two weeks for Yale to receive them, they should still reach the admissions office before December, so they will be considered for evaluation
@letmeseetheworld Yes, you can.
You can apply RD to other schools now. It’s just a waste of money though if you don’t think you’ll attend if accepted to Yale so perhaps you can get them ready but not hit the submit button unless you need to in Dec.
I’ve honestly already given up hope so I think I’ll be okay.
Hey everyone. I got my interview email pretty soon after applying, but I live outside Boston so there are lots of alumni. I just have one question–my interviewer used to be a director of admissions at yale, do you think that means anything? I mean with so many alumni in the area is it a good sign in any way?
@WildBlueberry, be careful about reading meaning into pigeon entrails.
I haven’t been contacted for interview yet…is this the norm or should i be nervous?
@ccstudent101 Don’t stress. Interview assignment is totally random! You will probably get one eventually.
Alumni interviews are being assigned. I am an interviewer and I do my first one tomorrow (Wednesday). I live in a large metropolitan area where we have a very active Alumni Schools Committee so we get a lot of applicants that we have to move on pretty quickly. Good luck to all of you.
I got my interview contact!!! I’m scares tho…has anyone taken an interview before? How does it go?
Are the interviews supposed to be formal? What do they ask?!
Interviews for Yale are usually very informal. We don’t ask for resumes, pictures, recommendations, etc. It is just a sit down with the student. While I have some questions I usually ask, I will let the interview move in any direction the questions take me. I usually do them at a Starbucks (certain bigger ones that have seating areas), libraries or Panera Bread. It helps when I buy my interviewee a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Puts them at ease.
They are just conversations with alumni who really really love their school. The only advice I would give would be to let the alumni know how excited you are about Yale. Not unnaturally excited, but just let them know that you are not one of those applicants that are applying to all Ivies to so you make the news if you get in all of them. Be prepared to say something about what makes Yale one of your choices. It does not have to be deep. Just sincere.
@TPerry1982 are you aware of the alumni presence in the southeast? I’m in a mid-sized city and am curious as to whether or not I’ll be interviewed
@Tperry1982 , do. You want to fly down and interview me?
@Tperry1982 , ill let you buy me a frapp. From starbucks! My interview is taking place in a large business building…so thats a little intimidating.
Thanks for the info tho!!
Also, students who have already gone through the interview process, please give me some advise!! I appreciate it!!
I had my interview for one of those other Ivies in a very intimidating office in 1978. Didn’t get in - thank goodness!!
