Yale Class of 2020 applicants

@Snpdrgn Email saying to check the portal!

Lol yup the email will tell us to check the portal. They don’t want to devastate too many lives via email. They figure if students will be devastated, they should choose to do so by clicking the button themselves :)) ~X(

@glasshours , I put applied statistics, computer science and mathematics, biomed engineering. I am sure at this point that I want to double major in statistics and computer science…hoping to become a future data scientist!!

@Xboxgamergirl - Ahhhh, I really want to dabble in CS in college! It’s actually really likely that I’ll end up majoring in it; I just didn’t mention it on my app because I’ve only taken one official CS class in school :stuck_out_tongue:

Crossing my fingers that we’ll meet each other at Yale! (Or Georgia Tech – I think I remember you from that thread, too? Hahah)

I feel like my stress level is increasing exponentially right now. My friends are starting to get accepted to elite colleges, which somehow makes things so much more REAL. 4 days ahhhh. Anyone else experiencing this?

@theleenbean - Same. Super excited and genuinely happy for all my friends who got in – they all deserve it so much – but can’t help but wonder if I’ll ever get to experience that same thrill after opening up an acceptance letter to my dream college.

Tbh, it’s probably not going to hit me that I’m going to college next year until I actually get an acceptance.

Seems like Stanford accepted a ton of minorities early this year-if you look at the results thread it’s like 70% minorities.

@johnnyisgod Yeah, it does seem like it. And non URM minorities at that. 5 of my Asian/Indian friends/friends of friends have been (to my knowledge) accepted, which is unprecedented. Could it have something to do with the ban on affirmative action in California?

@theleenbean I don’t know about Asians, from my school nobody got int and its like 90% Asian.

I’ve been so incredibly stressed out these last few days because several people from my school have gotten early rejections from ivies (I’ve heard 0 acceptances so far!!). At this point, I think I’d be over the moon with a deferral

The thing with deferrals is that most applicants get deferred. To me, a deferral is a rejection. I mean if they’ve already looked at you once and decided you’re good but not good enough for them (of course we are all good enough, perfect actually, but may not be what they want at this time) then what are the chances that they’ll like you in the RD round? So deferred is equal to a rejection, at least to me. Though, I’ll qualify, it doesn’t hurt to get another shot at it.

@jasishere One applicant from my school got into Yale through Questbridge. That’s about it. Only one applicant to Harvard and unfortunately a deferral. Two applications to Yale early (including me). Then at least 15 apps to ivies for the RD round… that’s where things really get crazy

@jasishere Remember, it’s not about the school, it’s about the individual student! You could very well be the one who is accepted!!

In the past, several people at my school who were deferred were accepted in the RD round (not for Yale but just generally at highly selective schools). It just gives me a tiny sliver of hope, and I haven’t heard any good news from scholarships I’ve applied to so I’d like a change of pace for once! Also, I’d like the idea of them wanting to give me a second look, means I’ve made them think a little more hahaha

Yeah, no one at my school uses QuestBridge but so far there’s been 2 Columbia early rejections and 1 UPenn early rejection. I believe I’m the only Yale early, and there’s also 2 Princeton earlies, so I’m going kind of insane.

Totally agree about the individual student thing though! I’ll try to stay semi-positive for the time remaining lol

i deleted.

Girl from my school was deferred from harvard yesterday and two were rejected from stanford. After seeing this depressing slew of rejections from all my friends, I can only hope my luck will change.

If yale is truely the right school for me, it will accept me. I’m not too worried because I think we’ll all get into somewhere good no matter what.

@strideforward I really needed to hear this. Thank you

I’m staying hopeful! I’m the first person from my school to apply to Yale in the last ten years, there’s a chance it’s greater tho!

Is there a greater chance of acceptance if your school typically does not send students to Ivy League schools? Ours has had one (Columbia) in perhaps 5-10 years!
