Last years Early post was the most devestating thing I have ever read on CC. For the many (apparently most) students who will not get in from CC, it will be comforting to some extent. But for the anticipation until December 15, It is terribly sad. I thought that my 1560 was good, but my SAT IIs of 760, 750, and 720 might kill me. If I had read that two months ago, I would have either not applied (not likely) or put even more effort into the application.

Does anyone know the acceptance rate of Deferments? I know that it is fairly low.

lindseylujh,
you seem to have similar stats to me. High SAT scores (my SAT Is are a little higher, IIs a little lower), good GPA, large number of devoted activities, community volunteering and government experience, a underrepresented part of the nation.

I would have thought that we are the students that Yale is looking for. After looking at last year's info, I am no longer so sure.

(p.s. Don't take this negatively. If I was on the Yale committee, I would accept you in a heartbeat.)

That thread definitely goes to show that there's not a formula. There seems to be no distinct factor separating those that were rejected, accepted, or deferred. No one should feel confident.

Regardless, I don't want to jinx us because I'd love more than anything to go to Yale, but if disappointment does occur, there will be some really cool school out there that wants students like us.

Around the 15th of December, we should all stick around for moral support. Those who get in can encourage the others, and it will be helpful to see how even the best of students can get rejected. From reading last years thread, I can see how some of the applicants who were rejected and deferred were helped through the tough time by the support of others on this board.

it really comes down to essays and recs. when you think about it, almost every student applying to Yale is going to have great scores, classes, rank etc. The essays are the only real difference the student can make in an application, and the recs are the only thing that separates one student from another student/person wise.

Wow is right. I too read last year's thread--it was devastating! Knowing that it is tough is one thing, but actually reading real stories makes that fact hit home. I wish there were a follow up about all the deferred CCers and where they ended up....it might offer some hope. That was bleak.

The best part about Yale is the amazing students (in my opinion). Look at how many equivilent students will be at many other schools, one more way to cushion the disapointment.

im so confused, i thought ea applicants find out their decisions on december 16th (isnt' that what the yale letter said) but everyone here says its december 15th. can someone please help me!
