@realcheese I have been feeling the same way about mood swings, but what makes me feel better is knowing that I put my best foot forward, and that who I am will shine through in my essays. I’m just trying to trust that I did my best and trust that they’ll see value in my application. That’s about all I can do for the next 2 weeks.
I just got an automated email from them and I got excited! Lol.
@IndirectProofs OMG I GOT THE SAME THING!! Confirming my application had been received. My heart stopped for a second when I first saw it. Ugh, I am NOT GOOD WITH WAITING!! lol
Did you read the part about how they will be calling applicants for interviews soon <3
My heart stopped too! This is so fun!
@IndirectProofs ITS SO FUN! I applied to 10 schools and two scholarships. I heard back, and was accepted to one school, but I’m waiting on the rest. Did you apply to many schools? if so, where?
I applied to 7 schools, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, John Hopkins, Brown, and a small catholic college.
I’m waiting on all of them.
wow those are all phenomenal choices! I wanted to apply to dartmouth, but ran out of steam at the end of application process. I applied to Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara (my safe school), USC, Yale, Brown, Cornell, Penn, and Columbia. I was accepted to Columbia.
Wow that is a lot of schools, I don’t blame you for running out of steam. Congrats on getting accepted into Columbia. That must be so exciting.
I have wanted to get back into school for so long, so this is like a dream coming true.
I keep re-reading the Yale email
@IndirectProofs Its SO exciting. Columbia is the first school I heard back from, but it also happens to be at the top of my list, tie with Yale. I spent all this time applying to SO many schools, and then with one acceptance, all that time feels wasted. lol. Except for Yale. Yale is the only answer I care about now, considering its the only contender with Columbia, out of the school I applied for. Having grown up in San Francisco, I love city life. So, I feel pretty drawn to New York City.
I thought about applying to Columbia, but got disheartened by the G.S school. For mathematics, it is not the best program because they shut out the older students from winning any of the prizes.
@IndirectProofs Hmm, I don’t know that that’s true. My counselor I spoke with yesterday said that GS students and CC students are open to the same Columbia opportunities, prizes and awards. The only thing that is not the same is financial aid, but that doesn’t worry me.
That is interesting. For the mathematics, the website lists several prizes that are based on the school. Two of them are Columbia College prizes, and then there is two more for Barnard College, but none for Columbia GS. As a mathematics enthusiast, this broke my heart. So I said, forget Columbia.
This doesn’t change me being happy for you though!
I am such a highly motivated mathematician, it would be hard for me to know that I’m not eligible for any of the prizes, since recognition is a big deal to me.
@IndirectProofs If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? You referenced “older students”?
What I meant was that if you are “older” as in going to Columbia GS, then you aren’t eligible for any of the mathematics prizes. I’m 34 years old, but when I said, “older” I should have just said nontraditional.
Oooh gotcha. That’s a bummer for Columbia, but looks like you’ve got plenty of other options!!
Yes, and I’m so thankful that the Yale Eli Whitney Students Program is an option. It is so valuable to me that Yale considers nontraditional students who have accomplished things without a degree. It really is like a dream! I hope it comes true.
