Since I'm obsessed with the Ivies (as you can see in the My Chance threads and in the Dartmouth section), what are my chances looking like for Yale?

Killer Essays!

I would be appling ED/EA to Yale, unless yall' would think that I had just as good as a chance in RD than ED/EA.

Amazing stats except for the class rank. TERRIBLE EC's.

yea, very good stats, but your EC's need alottttttttt of work, if you want to get into any Ivy.

You gotta show personality through your EC's. Clubs won't do it. You have to focus on 1-2 fields towards which you have passion, and show that you are active in those fields both in and out of school.

Well, I really don't know much I can do about that. I'm really interested in medicine, hence I'm going to a medical magnet school. I do research, and will start to volunteer at the hosptial soon. I will probably end up getting a grant for that/published, if that matters?

Killer essays=I'm really creative, and definitely would be something worth remembering!

:-) Thanks to those that posted, and to those that are still posting.

will you post your essay so we can critique it? thanx

orrican: Not necessarily so. I got in without any volunteering or work experience; all of my extracurriculars were school-based, and all were local. I wouldn't really call being an officer of a club "passion," but I did my ECs without thinking about how good they would look on a college app.

He will get in. Did you not see his ethnicity?

Your stats are good.

"He will get in. Did you not see his ethnicity?"

Despite their amazing stats and SAT scores, a few Hispanics are rejected by HYP. Affirmative action doesn't have a lot of impact on hispanics. Just warning you guys.

Glucose, you have great stats. Your scores are amazing. But, there are a few things that can hurt you: class ranking and ECs. Your class rank shows that your school is very competitive or you are not taking enough rigorous courseload. Your ECs are just random...they don't show me what you are passionate about or who you are. But, I see that you will do research or volunteer at the hospital. That will help you since you are interested in medicine.

Thanks for the quick, numerous responses!

It isn't that I'm not taking the hardest courseload, but everyone is taking AP classes. Oddly, I'm taking US AP (the class went from 30 students to 13 in the past year classes), while everyone is taking regulars in the summer, and making an easy 100, I'll have to struggle (well not struggle) just to get an A. Maybe I'm taking all the wrong AP classes (hardest?)? I guess that is my fault, but I'm one of those people that isn't looking for a GPA booster. I really enjoy taking classes such as those. Plus our school only offers like 12 AP classes in all (the basics: Maths, Sciences, Englishes?, Languages (Latin/Spanish), Social Sciences), but I'll be taking like 3 extra classes our school doesn't offer (World History, Psychology, Statistics). I'll make 4s and 5s in all of my AP tests. No doubt. I have to.

FYI, these test scores are predictive, but pretty much everything here I will accomplish. Of course, I'll have more. How much would my rank hurt my chances? Like not get in hurt? I mean I have like a pretty good average (in my opinion), but there are just so many smart people at my school, and my rank looks even worse because our class size is dropping because people can't handle it. How much would my chances hurt if I told you that that average was weighted? Also, our school really doesn't do that 4.0 scale, but if we did, I'd have a 3.95 weighted (our school only does weighted if at all).

Everyone is saying that these are like REALLY REALLY great scores. To me it doesn't look merely competitive to the 2400 SAT scores, or being the president of every club, or person in 5 sports. Thanks, though! It really means a lot that my scores are thought of as great! It is a confidence booster! :-D Thanks again.

I don't have an essay to just prop up here....I just know that it will be great. Maybe not to every applicant's to Yale, but it will be creative. I'm good at these types of things.

It is not your fault. Have your guidance counselor explain in his/her letter of recommendation that you are the most brillant student in your school (I may exaggerate) and that you take rigorous courseload. It will be a good idea for him/her to explain the competition in school and why your rank is low.

You are doing what you should be: You are taking AP courses and challenge yourself. That is what colleges want to see. There is no "wrong" AP class; just take as many APs as possible. More importantly, you really enjoy taking classes, and that is awesome. You seem, to me, passionate about learning and take every opportunities as you can.

Even though I cannot tell you what your exact chance is, I can tell you that you still have a shot no matter what. After all, HYP rejects valedictions with perfect scores and accept minorities and others with lower stats. You seem a very highly qualified minority, and any school would love to accept you. If they aren't, then it is their own loss. Don't worry- just relax. Congrats and good luck!

Is Irish Still a Minority? :)

I don't think so. It limits to blacks, hispanics and indians (i think).

Darn. Hmm. I wonder if they consider WASP a minority since i live in Southern California, about 25 minutes from Mexico.

SkullandBones: Hahaha to the Irish thing!

dazedandconfused12: Thank you sooo much! That really means a lot to me. Thanks for being so supportive! :-D

I don't consider the topic plastic surgery to very creative especially when our english teacher suggested it. By the way where is your grant coming from; I'm interesting in getting a grant.

Yale seems so much more than me! At first I thought that I had zero chances of getting into Yale, but now I see a glimmer of light of acceptance.

Hey Mel! I'm getting back to San Antonio on the 5th...but you'll be in San Diego, Ms. OC!

San Diego isn't in the OC if that's what you're saying. It's below it.
