@Fuzerabit Have you had your interview yet!? and congratulations!!!
@prosquad1
Thank you!!!
And no I haven’t. It was scheduled for tomorrow but with the snow we rescheduled for next Thursday! However I am on my way to interview for Dartmouth
I had my interview today! It went amazingly.
@zeppelins so happy to hear that
I am an interviewer and I have been assigned four applicants. I have done 2 already. Two I am waiting for since we are still in the middle of the Blizzard of 2016. I am working toward getting them done and in by Feb 15 so I have a little time.
@Tperry1982 hi I really wanted to ask some questions about an interview to someone and I really want to find out the answers from you. What kind of questions do students mostly ask you at the end of the interview? (When you ask them like: “are there any questions that you want to ask me”) also, what kind of questions do you ask to the students? My alumni asked about very rare political and social issues.
^there’s no set book of questions. It’s up to the individual to probe where he or she feels can progress the interview. Occasionally, I’ll add current event type questions if the student has discussed something similar. For instance, one student said he was active in environmental activism. I asked him his thoughts on the Flint water crisis. It’s not as I’m an expert – but I wanted to see if he was informed and had any thoughts on the subject. I think asking about obscure subjects is fair territory as well – the alum wanted to see how you’d answer difficult questions. Nothing wrong with that.
Should I be worried if I haven’t been contacted yet for an interview ? follow up-- at which point should I assume that I won’t get an interview ?
No. If not by now, it’s highly unlikely you’ll be contacted – but see the other part of this answer…
@T26E4 would it be worth calling admissions and requesting a skype interview?
@freshlemon123 - I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I’ve gotten a lot of questions. Since I am an AA female, sometimes they ask me about minority life on campus, they may ask about Bulldog Days, financial aid, the residential college system or just about anything. Quite often they say they don’t have any questions, and that is okay. Since they have my contact information, I tell them if they think of something they can feel free to contact me at a later time.
If you have a question based upon what you have read or seen in the brochures, etc., write it down and ask it. If something that is said during the interview triggers a question, then ask it. If you have no question, just say 'No" and move on.
Good luck to you!!
@gracie21, no. If you live in an area covered by an volunteer group, you’re on that roster. Your request won’t be able to change that. I just found out that in my region, 32% of students were not assigned – that’s huge (by our standards). But that’s just how the numbers bear out.
@T26E4 Thanks, that helps with my peace of mind
@Tperry1982 thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate it. I have one more question and this is not specifically about an interview. I was wondering if you know about “mid-year report” for undergraduate students and how it is reviewed during admission process!! My mid year grades as a senior are not really good compare to my previous year grades. Would this affect my admission chance? Thank you so much!
I’m sorry @freshlemon123. I don’t know the answer to that specific answer. You may want to look on the website or if you really want to know, contact the Admissions Office. Another CC parent on here may know the answer. Good luck!!
I’m hoping any of the Yale interviewers has advice for my daughter and me. She applied to Yale, and in early January, she received an email from an interviewer re setting up an interview. My daughter replied that she wanted to meet, but was unable to do so for about 10 days due to a week-long out-of-town athletic competition. Since then, despite sending several more emails to the interviewer, she has heard nothing back about scheduling a meeting. My daughter called the admissions office two days ago, and she said they told her they would reach out to the interviewer. My daughter sent one more email to the interviewer after she talked to the admissions office. My daughter would like to meet with a Yale interviewer; is there anything else she should do (without being annoying)? Thanks.
So, question -
How much can an alum interview that went EXTREMELY well help an applicant?

Our area must have a lot of applicants as Yale has not contacted our son for an interview. He turned in his application early December. I am thinking this is not a good sign as he was interviewed by 3 other ivies. We visited Yale campus a few years back it is beautiful! Does anyone know if they are still contacting students for interviews?
@love2bnana Some are still occurring but please don’t read into it one way or another. My local school district sends lots of applicants (I know b/c I’ve been the Yale presenter for +10 years at the citywide college fair). But this year, I know that only half were offered (randomly chosen) interviews due to the lack of volunteer slots. Indeed, I told one student I interviewed to go back and spread the word to his worried classmates who had applied to Yale that simply were never going to get interviewed. FYI, many moons ago, Yale was the only Ivy that interviewed me – but I was accepted at all that I applied to!
