Yale-NUS College Class of 2022

@ccauth mine are on the first page of the thread!

@ccauth how about sharing your stats? @Changi17 could you give us a little more details about the interview – types of questions, nature of the conversation etc.,? Thanks!

I am an international applicant from S.E.Asia. Intended to major in Urban Studies and PPE. ACT 33, Superscore 34 (does the school super score??) Math 2 800, Phy 710. TOEFL 111. GPA: 9.1/10.0. I hope the lack of national/international awards or achievement and my decent scores won’t affect my profile :frowning: Co-founder/VP of a cultural project that aims to raise the awareness of the youth to preserve traditional values. (My supplement actually talked about how I’m engaged in this project). I have experience in working with kids (director of a project that teaches visually-impaired children and leader of voluntary trips across the country to support the education of ethnic minorities’ kids). Also leader/founding member of a dance crew. I stressed on the aspect of cultural diversity and the environment that Yale-NUS offers. The school is my first choice! Hope you guys can give me some comments about whether the chances are there for me! Thanks! @India2018 @Changi17

@ccauth I think you have good chances. They look at the application holistically, and you are well rounded in terms of that, having good EC and academic achievements. Honestly from what I can tell, everyone who has shared their stats have really good chances, I guess it comes down to what type of student they are looking for. It’s extremely hard to predict the admission officers though.

@ccauth In terms of my stats, I don’t think it will be much use to anyone because I don’t have a GPA as I go to an IB school. I am predicted 42/45 points, if that tells you anything haha. My SAT’s are in the lower 25th percentile for Yale-NUS, but I hope my ECs make up for that. In school I participate in multiple sports, drama, MUN and student council, for most of these I have a leadership position (captain, President, etc) and I was a part of these projects for 5+ years. Outside of school I have founded a volunteer project, I lead another charity project and I participate in 2 other charity projects. I also had 2 internships in my field of interest, and other work experience here and there. I hope that helps!

@ccauth @momentousmeerkat I agree. The only thing that’s a challenge is the late day of notification–round one’s is early april, after most US colleges have already released decisions

@Changi17 I know it’s only 3 days since my application submission but I’m still worried cuz nothing about the interview has arrived…

@ccauth Try not to worry. It took about three weeks for me to get my email, and I submitted my application around mid November.

Thanks @ccauth @momentousmeerkat for sharing your stats. The past CC threads do not have any information on applicant stats for YNC. It is good that we are building this data this year and hopefully more will contribute so it becomes useful for the next cohort of students.

Of course these stats do not predict anything. Nevertheless it is good to have them to get a general idea at the college selection stage, and to expend our time & effort optimally. I am sure most CC’ers are smart enough to take the information and interpret it wisely.

@momentousmeerkat it is interesting that you mention lower 25th percentile. I have been looking for the middle 50% band of SAT scores for admitted students at YNC. While this is generally available for the U.S universities, I could not find it for YNC. Please point to the source if you have one.

@ccauth I submitted my application around the middle of December and haven’t heard anything yet.

Just had my interview. Questions were straightforward, but we went off topic for a while and so I never really got to talk about “why Yale NUS” or anything. I shared my Yale app and didn’t write the supplement, so I worry that they’d think I’m not interested. Is it too late to write the supplement? I honestly had no idea about it (completely forgot) until I finished my interview and read through CC rn…

@pigeon001 did you interview with Yale or YNC? Can you share your stats?

@India2018 The press release in 2013 says “At the class’s 75th percentile, the SAT critical reading score is projected to be 760, with the 75th percentile for math being 780”. If that is the 75th percentile, I assume that 25th percentile is around 700’s. It might be higher or lower now, the information is a little outdated. Here is the source: https://www.yale-nus.edu.sg/newsroom/yale-nus-college-welcomes-inaugural-class-exceeding-150-students/. I hope that helps!

Hi All, thanks for starting this thread. I just finished my interview today and I thought it went well. The questions were usual and nothing very difficult. Can’t wait for the decisions now!! I am so excited.

@prams2k where are you from? Why Yale-NUS/what do you foresee studying?

@ccauth

Interview:
What went well: I was able to connect Yale NUS’s core curriculum really well with my interests, I had the opportunity to elaborate on what I wish to do and how lost I am with my future
What didn’t go well: I wasn’t able to really talk about “why YNC” though I did talk about the curriculum. It was clear that I didn’t really know much about Singapore. It was mostly me talking rather than him telling me anything. We were short on time and so I didn’t really get to go through all of my questions.

Honestly I only applied here thinking that it wouldn’t hurt (I clicked on the Also apply to YNC on my Yale app) but while preparing the interview I researched a lot about the school and seriously clicked with it. The interviewer was also SO nice and the overall vibe was just so supportive. I better write my supo

@pigeon001 your profile is impressive! @pigeon001 @prams2k when did you submit your app and when did you receive the interview invi?

Just had the interview, the interviewer was extremely nice, asked questions about my past, what I do for the community, my experience in South-East Asia, why Yale-NUS, recommended book/movies. The questions are usually catered towards what you said previously. Good luck to everyone!

I sent in the scores 3 days before the deadline and I notified the Admission office that the scores are coming. They say that they will wait and will update the status when the scores arrive. Do you think it’ll affect my application in terms of this? Thanks!

@ccauth I don’t think this should effect your application much. My scores arrived to the office after they sent me an interview invite.

@ccauth I am from India. I want to study at Yale-NUS as its the best liberal arts and science college in Asia. I also have my parents living in Singapore, so closer to family for me. I submitted my application during 2nd week of Dec and received interview email in 1st week of Jan. Hope this helps.
