Just got my interview invitation! Applied January 10th or something like that. Round 1
Good luck everyone!!!
Omg congrats! Hope it went good for you!! Do let me know how was it as in what yâall talked about?
Did other people start getting interview notifications? Should I be worried, haha.
samee. i sent in my application on the 14th of jan. any idea till when the invitations will be sent out? pretty nervous
hey! how was the interview like? and do you have any idea till when will they send out invitations for interview to the round 1 applicants?
hey! I have a PRC passport, but I went to an international school in Singapore for high school. I was considered as an international applicant, but my interview was on-campus with a 4th-year student associate.
The interview was very chill and I think they purposefully designed it to be like that so that you can relax and let your true self shine. Rather than a rigidly structured Q&A, my interview flowed more like a normal conversation. I can tell that both the admissions admin and the student body care a lot about who you REALLY are and the thoughts that you have about this world. Last year, all international applicants were interviewed thru video call by a student associate, some local ones were too (this year I have no idea). The student associate will have a copy of your basic information (list of activities, major interests, etc) and some notes from the admissions officers about the rest of your application, but I donât think they have access to your essays and stuff. The admissions officer will obviously be able to see everything.
Also, one random observation that I had last year- most if not all of the admissions officers and student associates majored in the humanities. I imagine that they might have a soft spot for people who have dreams and an appreciation for the liberal arts. My interviewer got really excited when we started talking about books and some pretty philosophical topics. After all, YNC is a small liberal arts school functioning in a very realistic environment (âstudy stem=thrive, study humanities=starveâ kinda thinking is prevalent in SG), and theyâd want to look for people who share their mission of promoting liberal arts and broad-based education.
Like any other college interview, they did ask about co-curricular activities and major interests, but the focus was more so on WHY you did what you did rather than just repeating your resume. In my opinion, they care a lot about your deeper motivation and your personal beliefs and âphilosophy.â The best advice I can give for the ync interview is 1) to take a close look at the materials that you handed in and ask yourself the âwhyâ behind your experiences and beliefs and 2) to relax and treat your interviewer as a friend.
As for the timeline, I donât quite remember the specific time, but I do remember that it was a pretty large window. I got my interview like two days after I handed in my app, but I also know of lots of people who got it way later. And no, I doubt that getting your interview later means you are less likely to get in. If youâre dying to know, you can always google last yearâs thread and check through that.
Hope that helped
Omg thanks this is so helpful
I second what @dontwaitlistmepleeas said about being yourself and reading a lot about ync. good luck friends
guys I honestly love this school so much, Iâm super hyped to be classmates with you all and I wish good luck to everyone.
Honestly me too, this is something Iâm super excited about and I wanna get in so bad
Thank you for your answers! Hope to meet you and others at YNC!!!
woah! thanks for a detailed one! really helpful
samee! this thread itself makes everything seem super exciting!! good luck everyone!!
@spinachbrain211 Also, any idea till when is it ideal to wait? cause Yale NUS is the only one Iâm applying to abroad and i really hope to get in but seeing the past stats lowkey feel like its a bye my school has not yet uploaded the transcripts, do they view our apps only when everything is submitted or do they consider before? sorry for asking too many questions
Sent them an email about the transcript and mid year report a week ago. No one answered me.
Yes they kinda view the app with the transcripts and stuff from what I know. Iâve seen people wait till at least early Feb for the first round interview invites, hope for the best!
I think you should try re- emailing cz they say they reply within 3 days max?
ahh okayy! thank you
Hey when i asked them about which all to submit, they told me to upload the predicted scores along with mid terms if you have it
