Yale Payment Plan enrollment

I’m hoping some parents have experience with Yale Payment Plan enrollment. It looks like today (6/25) is the deadline for enrollment (my daughter is an incoming 2019 student). I submitted the application form yesterday but it looks like Yale has to send an email and link before I can complete enrollment and make the initial payment.

I’m hoping the 6/25 deadline is for submitting the application (the part I’ve already done) and not for completing enrollment/initial payment . . . any experience or thoughts on this? I tried calling the phone number but can’t get through - I assume lots of people are calling with questions today.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Not Yale  but my son’s college will be taking the first automatic payment on July 1, a month before the first tuition payment is due for everyone else.

Make sure your daughter’s Yale email is coming through to her personal email; that was one of the problems we had. My son had to add us individually since he is 18.

And can you email the Bursar in addition to calling them?

Thanks, that’s a good point about checking her Yale email address (which I believe is active but not something she’s checking regularly as of now) as well as personal email. I’ll also email Yale in case that’s an easier way to get through than phone.

In case anyone else needs this information - I got through by phone and the deadline is regarding the first step (submitting the online application form), so we’re in compliance. They send an email within a couple of days with instructions about how to make payments.

I’m finding that the checklist for new students is something that needs to be reviewed closely . . . some of the things can be done online at the last minute, but others require mailing in physical forms etc.

We didn’t use the Plan, but one thing I noticed last year was that unless otherwise authorized, Yale dealt with the student. DS authorized us, as his parents, to have access to his financial information, at which point we were able to set up a parent account.

Ask your daughter to check her email regularly; it’s a good habit to get into as a nearly adult person, and you don’t want to miss anything important.

Welcome to the Yale family.

Payment is due July 1 for first two months. Only the deposit is due today.

Thanks IxnayBob and Gnomemom, that’s good information. We’re authorized users on the e-bill/e-pay account so hopefully once the YPP enrollment is complete we’ll be set.

She is thrilled to be joining the Yale family and we’re thrilled that she gets to go her dream school.

Just activated my account last night. I guess I just let my son tell me when the bill is due. Is that okay, right?

@hzhao2004, I set up my account such that I get an email every month at my email address. It either says “there is no balance due,” in which case I don’t bother logging in, or the email tells me there’s a balance due. I imagine even if you’re on the Plan, non-Plan expenses must show up every now and then.

Yale is pretty laid back, but they like to facilitate the parent’s being informed about balances

The Plan is a very good option in my opinion and makes paying for my D’s education tolerable- though definitely not totally painless. I will caution parents to pay close attention to all the things that are due - health forms, insurance waiver, payment plan information, etc. Though our kids are arguably brilliant in their own way, attention to adult like details are not in the average 18 year olds arsenal. And since any failures on their part may result in significant financial consequences, I suggest that parents stay on top of things. My daughter created her account, gave me her log in information and then blissfully went on with the end of senior year. I strongly suggest that as a plan of action.
