YALE RD CLASS OF 2019

Actually, I think the last two years they’ve been releasing a few days before, the Thursday or Friday before the 31st

Getting decisions four days earlier would be huge haha. Can’t take the waiting, even with all I have going on to take my mind off it.

Last year the official date was March 27 this year it’s the 31st. Usually they just say “by April 1st” until they announce a date which this year is the 31st.

Do you guys think committees are done and all the decisions are made? They would need time to calculate financial aid, so I would think they would need

Before I sent in my application, I sent Yale admissions an email attaching documents of two research projects that I did. I never received a reply to confirm that these were received, but heard that many applicants usually don’t receive responses. I called several times, but never was able to reach someone about this. The email I sent it to was apply.questions@yale.edu. I know that decisions have most likely been determined. Should I even attempt to call again?

@adrianmcafee15‌ my D sent a letter via email as well but she sent it to both the admissions email and also her area rep. She got an email back from the rep confirming that the letter had been added to her application. You might want to find out who your rep is and send him or her an email.

Did anyone else also apply to Yale-NUS? I know it and Yale are entirely separate universities with different admissions offices, but I just wanted to wish those who applied good luck this Friday.

@adrianmcafee15‌ Whatever has been inserted or not, it’s already been acted upon. Don’t stress over this.

@T26E4‌ So you think decisions have already been made and it won’t matter to send additional materials now?

If it will make you feel better, by all means send an email to your admissions officer (for your area) explaining you submitted “this” [how] on [date] and because you did not receive a confirmation, you are just sending it to him/her to ensure it is a part of your file. Wish them a nice day, thank them for their time. It may be too late, it may not. WHAT do u have to loose so ling as you have not pestered them all winter/spring.

My S sent an update in Feb, and the admission officer responded within hours. They’re busy, but also committed to their role. A friend is in admissions for an elite school to which my S did not apply, and has mentioned they LOVE receiving relevant info from applicants. These people love their careers/jobs, so if appropriate (and this seems to be), contact them.

Thanks @MomTwo2‌ and @T26E4‌! I just read this on Yale’s website: “If you feel that something not included in your submitted application is critical enough that it needs to be added to your file, you should either fax it to 203.777.6120 or email it to apply.questions@yale.edu, which is monitored by our file room.” This the email I sent it through, so I’m confident that they received it.

Is there anyway to check the status of one’s financial aid application with yale?

@drblack, I think you find out at the same time as your admissions decision, however if you have a specific question I think you could call the financial aid office?

So has anyone cracked the code to Yale decisions? I took a glance at the early decision thread and it seems to defy the patterns I typically see. Hispanic male with a 2400 in a single sitting gets deferred. Low-income, first gen Korean male with a 2340 gets outright rejected. White male with a 33 ACT, with no legacy ties, gets accepted? Huh? Does anyone have insight into how much essays and.or the interview make a difference? What sets one student apart? My son is not particularly invested in this school – already assuming he will be rejected. But I’m just curious.

@LegacyMom I really don’t think there is any code to be cracked! They simply select students they think will craft (what they see as) the ideal Yale class for that year. However, there are a surplus of these type of applicants, so unfortunately, volumes of perfectly qualified candidates are rejected every year. The interview isn’t weighted much. I’ve heard that if you’re “borderline”, your interview performance can sway you in either direction, and help the committee make a decision. As most of these students have A class stats, essays play a huge role in the decision. They give the committee insight into who the applicant is. At the end of the day, from what I understand, it’s a personality contest. It’s about what you can offer the school, and whether the committee thinks you’ll thrive in the Yale environment.

Your son is smart! It makes me sad to admit that I’ve fallen head over heels for Yale, despite the fact that I have next to 0 chance at acceptance.

@fizzy110, Don’t get me wrong. Of course, he would be thrilled to get in. But it isn’t something he lives and dies for. He knows his chances are slim, so he isn’t on pins and needles waiting. I will say that he has had success with schools where the essay portion gave him an opportunity to shine, So I’m hoping that works in his favor with Yale.

Good luck to you fizzy!

@LegacyMom Oh sorry, that’s not what I meant to imply - it would be utterly surprising for an applicant not to be ecstatic with an acceptance from Yale! I’m sure he’ll be just as thrilled with an acceptance as I would be!! I just gathered from your description that it seems like he is taking a much more level headed approach than some (cough me) do - which I think enviable.

Essays were my favorite part of the college application process - from the feedback I’ve gotten, I definitely think they were my strong suit too, so I hope this helps out!

Good luck to your son!! Not long till we know now

My son applied Yale, had an interview, but I don’t think he’ll have much chance to get in because everyone seems to have the top stat.

@studycollege‌ , in my limited observation, the “top stat” doesn’t seem to be that important. It seems like there is some minimum threshold that needs to be met but, beyond that, the top schools don’t care. They won’t necessarily pick someone with a 36 on the ACT over someone with a 33…unfortunately for my son!

Is it just me, or does it seem like more people this year are getting likely letters? Just from browsing the various FB groups and CC, I’ve noticed a bunch of people mentioning likelies this year, much more than in previous years.

And I’m just waiting here… Probably gonna get rejected :frowning:
