7/63/30-- I’m getting steadily more pessimistic as it gets closer…

20/80/10 :/

There are going to be very few of us rejected, I think. Some no doubt will be, but the majority of us will get deferred. Which is sad. :(

That just means four more months of agonizing waiting…arrgh. If you look at the pledge thread, there is some statistic that said that only 15/75 got in last year. So, who’s going to be a part of the lucky ~20 this year?

(Me, hopefully, haha!)

Hopefully me! I feel like I’m in the middle of everyone else here academically/objectively, but I feel like my essays kick butt.

Do you mind me asking your stats/these impressive ECs of yours? Just curious.

Sure. I’ve had one book published that’s sold 10k copies, and is soon to be released in two new language/countries with a sequel coming out for xmas 2011. Also an article for an international mag of about 80k readership, with another one coming next year.

Plus the standard applicant’s array of 'A’s, ECs, essays, recs, etc…

^ It might be relevant to point out that bigboba’s been out of high school for a few years and is an international applicant.

@silverturtle - how do you remember that?! the thread i mentioned that in was about 6 weeks ago. Kudos to your memory.

I stressed in my application how much I love to write. I wrote a book, but never tried to get it published. It’s hard knowing I’m going against people who are actually published. :(

I’m starting to get worried now.
I feel like I have everything for a 40% acceptance except test scores, but I’ve always been told that they hold the least weight? With them I’m thinking >1% acceptance.
I have a 1920 on the SAT and my SAT II are nothing special, high 600-740s but I’m taking the ACT next week and have been getting 33-34 on practice tests since I know I need to prove I’m not dumb.

If I do end up getting a 30 or something on the ACT, do you think my chances are gone?

I put a lot of effort into my essays, and there is absolutely no way it could be considered a sob story or cliche.

Idk if the Adcoms can overlook my test scores though
Do you think an outstanding essay (and interview) could get me in with low scores?

People usually consider standardized testing the second most heavily weighted portion of the application, behind transcript/GPA/class rank.

To be /really/ competitive for Yale, you’ll probably want to reach at least a 34 ACT or a 2200 SAT. I’m not saying they don’t accept people who score lower than this, though.

People usually consider standardized testing the second most heavily weighted portion of the application, behind transcript/GPA/class rank.

See that’s the thing though, transcript is the most rigorous I can take at my school, 4.0 unweighted, val. I’ve held office 3 years, ASB President this year, maybe 700+ hrs com.service or more, raised over 20k for our city’s children’s hospital, NHS officer, varsity lax, Harvard ssp, etc etc etc. I feel like I have everything that an average, not above average but average, applicant has.

Except my scores.

I would think the 700+ and over 20K is definitely above average for the applicant pool, but maybe average for the admitee pool? Honestly that all looks really good, I’m sure your scores are fine.
I hope you get in, as my credentials etc. are generally quite similar to yours, and that should bode well for me… :D

sweetnight -

I think if you get a 32+ on the ACT you’ve got a fair shot. Transcript and ECs are very good. The problem is that a 29 will raise a red flag with admissions. They probably take some people every year with similar scores, but my guess is that some other factor is so compelling that they are willing to overlook it. Unless you have something truly special or another hook, I do think your odds are somewhat slim.

Hope the scores comes through for you.

So last time I posted on this thread I was kind of making fun of myself. But I’ll be serious this time.
Let’s go with 15/52/33
Slightly higher than the official rates because I hope my political stuff will help (debate sixth at nationals, us senate youth program delegate, girls state governor)

Madshock - Hey who needs to be top of the admitee pool? Still admitted
haha and heres to the luck of both of us. Thanks for your input!

Cubsfan15 - Yes I’ve been forecasting above 32 but I really only have one shot at this so I’m hoping I will be able to pull through the pressure. I cannot think of any other hook other than maybe the fact that I will probably be the first, or one of very few, of my ethnicity (Hmong) to get in to Yale, if accepted.
Thanks to you too.

I had a little freak-out reading these stats tonight, and both of your comments have helped me regain confidence haha
Now to get that 34…

Haha yeah no prob, and thanks to you too :)!

Now I’m thinking of all of the little things that might lower my chances. What if my recommenders addressed a different school in their recs? What if Yale never got my college transcript? What if my essays were really that bad? What if using a sophomore year teacher was a horrible idea?

It’s getting worse as the date draws nearer.
