Yale SCEA Class of 2015 - Chance prediction.. how do YOU think YOU will fare?

Okay, I’ve decided to be ultra pessimistic now.

0% accepted, 50% deferred, 50% rejection

^ my mean, pessimistic logical side says this.

but I am hoping beyond all hope… not healthy.

I’m completely normal… I have nothing out of the ordinary in any one field but I’m completely well-rounded.
I’ve been class president for 2 yrs, I oscillate between #1 and 2 in my class, I’ve had a steady job for two years teaching elementary school children vocal performance at a local studio, I recently interned with a state politician, I’m a varisty dancer, NHS, UIL current events and ready writing, I’m bilingual (spanish and english) and I’m very active in my community. My SAT/ACT scores were actually pretty good… 2340 and 35 respectively… but I haven’t published any works or done research in any interesting places. I’ve done well for an average high school student, but this isn’t exactly remarkable. Am I just SOL?

Honestly, I feel a bit uneasy at the thought of predicting my own chances of getting in to Yale. I’ll post my stats and you guys tell me what you think :)

2350 on SAT (800 M, 800 W, 750 V), 4.8 weighted GPA, lots of leadership (well, I think so at least - I’m Student Government President and FJCL president), Intel ISEF awards, Siemens Semifinalist, and a bunch of Latin awards. Also, I’m Hispanic which I’ve been told helps a good bit.

What would you say my chances are? Thanks guys!! :)

^ Your scores put you well in the ballpark and your URM status is definitely a plus. It’s hard to make any conclusions other than that, though.

no amount of worrying will change their decision… I keep thinking that… doesn’t change anything…

@gmcabezon - I’d give it 90% accept, 10% defer, 0% reject. URM + Intel/Siemens = almost guaranteed acceptance

^ditto what iceui2 said. very high acceptance rate

Quite honestly, I’ve been watching my friends get congratulated on Penn and Columbia all day, and it’s getting me on edge.
I’d say 20% accept, 30% defer, 50% reject.

30% accept, 40% defer, 30% rejection

Not in a pessimistic mood anymore. Woot.

20% accepted, 60% deferred, 20% rejected

Oh dear. I’m super nervous because my SAT score is in the 2250s and my 3 subject test scores add up to 2350. My ECs are pretty well-rounded but nothing entirely special. Interview was a bit emotional. Does 8/62/30 sound reasonable?

^Sounds reasonable.

For some reason, I have a feeling that i will have a 100% acceptance/0% deferred/0%rejected. Why? I am Jeff Brenzel’s son.

^Not if you don’t do the dishes, son.

After seeing two people in the top 5 of our class get rejected ED/EA from Columbia and Stanford and one girl who was URM but in the teens (please don’t read anything into this about my attitudes toward race in admissions, just stating the facts) get into Stanford EA, and realizing that I am an upper-middle-class pasty-white male from a well-represented state in a decent suburb who has not done groundbreaking medical research or played in Carnegie Hall or lived in 20 countries:

1/20/79 :(

I’ll put myself at 15/75/10. My SAT scores (2360 superscored, 2380 total from 3 subject tests) put me in the acceptable range, but my GPA’s looking rather low: ~4.33/4.0, weighted. Also, I’m Asian, my extracurriculars aren’t going to wow anyone, and I’m a bit lacking on the community service side. Augh. I did like my essays quite a bit, though…

My friend was admitted to Stanford REA yesterday… feeling the pressure. I wish we could just get it over with and find out already - like ripping a band-aid off. :(

Same here, on both counts.

After reading the brutal Columbia ED and Stanford REA threads, I’m revising my previous prediction (20% accept, 70% deferred, 10% reject) to 20% A, 50% deferred, 30% reject.

Ughhh so nervous for Wednesday! D: I have friends admitted UPenn Fisher M&T, UPenn CAS, Stanford, and Caltech (Questbridge) … everyone assumes I’ll get in and it will be so awkward when I’m deferred/rejected. =/

Columbia ED really wasn’t that bad after the initial few pages. A lot of the people who were accepted just didn’t post right away. And yeah, Stanford was bad, but not really any worse than can be expected.

The Penn ED thread turned out really well
