Those of you who have already pressed submit, how soon after did you get contacted by Yale with info to access the portal? Did they give you a date for SCEA decisions? Thanks!!
The date is December 15, 2016 at 5:00 PM EST (posted on website). I got my email a day after I submitted, and I think Yale downloads material every day.
Thanks @IxnayBob. I assume his summer on-campus interview was with a rising Senior. (I did not accompany him.)
Good to know that he does not need to be on the lookout for an alum interview contact.
Also, are you aware if the applicant has to submit ALL materials before interviews can be done?
^^ Interviews have nothing to do with materials submitted. Not everyone will get an interview and that has nothing to do with the strength of the application. It is just one piece that gets added to an entire file that gets submitted to the panel of admissions. The key will be to make sure your file is full and complete as soon as possible because you never know when your application is truly being reviewed. In my daughter’s case, we submitted an update to her file because she had done something rather large in between applying and the AO said that she had never even seen it because it arrived after she had been reviewed.
Something I told a friend of my daughter’s the other day who is also applying was that going into this is that you are a file. You are a file with a bunch of numbers that are really similar to everyone else. It is the rest of the file that will help them decide if you are meant to be a part of their school. Its how they feel about you when they close it and move on to the next one that will make or break your chances. Not test scores or answers to a question. It wont be the one glowing letter of recommendation. You are all filling your files with pretty much the same things. What sets your file apart. Why will they want to remember you when they are done spending the very few minutes looking at it? Keep that in mind.
We joke that my daughter may have been your typical smart, musically talented girl from a public school. She may have been your typical service based volunteer. She may have been your typical “nerd” with the grades and scores on tests but she was also the cheer captain. Maybe being a cheerleader of all things was what got her past the sort? How funny would that be? You truly will never ever know in the end so be your best. Put forth your best and just hit “submit”. No matter what the outcome, you will know you did your best. I wish you all the best of luck.
@Memmsmom thank you for the great advice
I submitted my application a few hours ago!!
@gyunnzb I also just submitted mine! Scared, but I’m just going to keep reminding myself that no matter what happens, everything will be okay.
@hhjjlala where does it say the 15th? thanks!
@ch12345 It says it in your portal and in the email that was sent to you from Yale!
Does anyone have any interview advice? I have mine tomorrow
@bluekou23 I had mine about a week ago, and the best advice is just be yourself. He said that it was one of the best interviews hes had in his past 8 years of doing it and I didn’t think i did anything special besides being myself and having a conversation. In addition, bring something to show and tell. i.e. i had made my own 3-D printer and brought things i had printed
I’m a bit slow but I just wanted to share I finally applied Thursday morning and it’s like a massive weight is off me. So happy with my application (and hopefully any admissions person is too cx)
For those who have already applied, does it show that your test scores are submitted?
yes @DreamforIvy
plops massive weight back on so now I’m panicking a bit. I hit rush for all my SAT scores they day I submitted my app (Thursday 10/26) because I figured if for some reason I didn’t get my app out in time I didn’t want them to be just sitting with my scores. I figured rushing them gets them in 2 business days, but everything online says it takes 1-2 weeks WITH the (very expensive) rush. I figure I’m at the bottom half of the pile, but, well, what should I do? Is this a common predicament or am I atypically unprepared?
@Seniors.yikes.us It says on the website if the scores reach the office by the first week of December for SCEA, then they will be in time for consideration. So your situation obviously isn’t ideal but it’s probably okay.
@y90y90 oh good (thank you!). On to the next source of panic!
I took my ACT on Oct 22, and I am taking my subject tests on Nov 5. So my subject tests would probably not reach for consideration. I hope my ACT score reaches there in time.
@RoadTriptoCollege2017 Thank you! It went really well!
