13 days aghhh
I know it’s only an extra day or two but I’m sad that we don’t find out on the 13th or 14th like most other early ivy applicants.
I just got contacted for an interview today! Is it too late to even be considered in my decision??? I find it strange that I would be contacted 13 days before decisions are released. I think I will be having a Skype interview on Sunday evening, which only leaves about ten days for my interviewer to do her report and have the admissions team review it…
Any Nevada applicants?
pretty sure interview reports were due dec 1. shouldn’t matter. just have fun and confirm yale as your top choice!
@hhjjlala how do you know they were due Dec 1? I have an interview tomorrow too, so should I not sweat it?
Maybe I am mistaken… aren’t interview reports due Dec. 1 for EA?
Reports were due on Dec 1st – that’s the ideal. What I suspect may have happened is @therealthing may have been assigned to an earlier alumnus/alumna – but the interview was never conducted and as the deadline came, the director re-assigned therealthing to another person, with the caveat to get it in ASAP.
Funny thing is I’m in hold mode for that very thing. My director has 5 interviews not submitted – and has inquired whether the applicants need immediate re-assignment or whether the reports haven’t been submitted but the interviews took place.
@hhjjlala - yes that was the deadline. I clicked send late on November 30. Been doing this for over 25 years, I always meet my deadlines. I agree with @T26E4, I am often contacted at the last minute to do interviews that others have been unable to do for good reasons (family emergencies, unexpected work commitments, etc.). Since we are dedicated to getting them done, someone usually steps into the gap and gets it done.
A seasoned interviewer can do an interview and then the report the same day. Unlike your essays which you take days or months honing, I almost immediately know what I want to write about a candidate as soon as the interview is over. Since it is all electronic, all I need to do is open up the website, type it in, and hit send. Now this doesn’t mean I don’t take this seriously, I absolutely do. But for those that are wondering about the late interviews, your interviewer will make sure they get in so that they can be considered. The Committee will be sitting and considering EA apps almost up to the last minute. There is plenty of time left.
Good luck to all of you. Since my kid applied SCEA back in 2013, I know these last few days are excruciating. Have fun, go holiday shopping, hang out with friends. At this point, there is nothing that you can do except be ready to hit “send” on other other apps if you are deferred or denied (advice I gave my D). Enjoy this next to last semester of your high school career.
Thank you to @Tperry1982 and @T26E4 offering your experience. What would be a typical interview length of time? I presume the length says something about how captivated the interviewer felt about the conversation.
DD’s was 45 minutes.
There’s no rule of thumb. I guess 45 - 60 minutes. I had a particularly pointless one where I ended it after 20 minutes or so. It wasn’t going anywhere and the kid was simply not that interested in attending – maybe his parents pushed him to apply? Dunno.
I wonder how often it happens that a student doesn’t want to attend a particular school, is being pushed by family, and doesn’t have anything other than the interview to use to sabotage the application. Everything else seems out of the kid’s control, assuming that the family can see the essays.
I hope it’s a rare event, but I don’t doubt that it happens.
@Tperry1982 Could you please explain the admission process a bit more. I am not sure when does Committee gather and are there like different rounds of admission? Also, does Yale admit a certain number of students from a certain region/country or do they just pick them from overall pool?
@T26E4 if I was the only person from my country to have applied SCEA does it improve my chances? and if no one from my country has ever attended Yale does it also improve my chances?
I am equally curious about this ^^. According to Yale’s fact sheet no one from my country currently attends. I am pretty sure that am the only person from my country that has applied SCEA(and will remain the only person inspite of RD). I would imagine Yale seeks a diverse class.
@chichewaboy My guess is both scenarios are neutral – neither good nor bad.
12 days left! Wishing you guys all the best!
Hey guys, I emailed an admissions officer but I didn’t get a response. Does this mean they read my email but just didn’t have time to respond?
@chichewaboy 1) How long ago did you email them? 2) They don’t really have a lot of time to respond because of Early Action applications!
