@DreamforIvy I emailed them about a month ago lol. But thanks, I guess it’s cool
12 days! Jeepers it sounds so close but seems so far
Calling them is a better idea. @chichewaboy
There is always an admissions officer at the phone.
I know it’s going to be a deferral tho. Positive. @seniors.yikes.us
You never know what will happen…personally, I have no idea what’s going to happen with me. I’m against five other kids from my school and we all have great scores…but I’m not sure how Yale will view my score in the 2200’s against a kid with a 2390…and there’s two of those against me. Personally, I haven’t dedicated my life to standardized testing and have actually made an impact…we’ll see what they want. I just know it’ll be the happiest day of my life if I get in and I’ll never stop being grateful. Coming from a family where one of my parents didn’t even graduate from college and the other graduated from a small college in the Midwest, I haven’t exactly known tons about the Ivy League admissions process throughout my life. I never played a game and just followed my heart, and I really hope it pays off. Yale was the only school I really, truly connected with and saw myself at. Although I’ve tried, I cannot find another school that fits me as well.
How can you tell if Yale has received subject test scores? nothing’s showing up in the portal and am beginning to panic.
@CultureVulture subject test scores are not required by Yale and so they will not appear in the portal. Read the information in the portal. It states this
@CultureVulture Go to your My SAT on your College Board account. And check your score sends. If in Yale’s row it says fulfilled, your scores are in.
Anyway, if it was a free score report of November testing, your scores reached Yale already on Thursday, if Yale accepts electronic reports, of course. However, I am not sure if Yale takes in electronic reports, but given the sheer amount of applications our cute little school receives, requiring hard copies is, I believe, a little inconvenient. Imagine sorting out multiple test reports from 35k students. Poor souls.
And a little unusual thing happened with my testing. So I took the ACT with Writing on October 22. A few days ago, ACT emailed me with a notice that my Writing part of my test has been cancelled, and they are refunding $16. Well, fairness issues at centers, and they are doing some kind of investigation.
But, as you people know, Yale requires ACT with Writing. So I emailed them. No reply. Thought I’d call. Talked to an AO real time, instead of leaving a voicemail - I had to try really hard for that. LOL. She was sweet, and she told me that she will notify the regional AO. However, on my portal, there is still no tick on the Required Testing row. Why would it be there, I know. But I don’t know what to do. Will Yale really consider my situation? If it doesn’t, I could withdraw my application now, and apply RD. That time, I will have my SAT scores ready. DISCLAIMER: I love Yale
Instead of withdrawing tell them you want to change from EA to RD. They’ll do that for you because you have a special circumstance.
I had my interview today, so does that mean it won’t count towards my decision?
I think it went pretty well (it lasted 80 minutes after all), and it would suck to not have it count.
It’ll get filed. Our area director was tapping folks who had outstanding reports yesterday. Hahaha. Maybe it was one of our delinquent volunteers who interviewed you!
1 1/2 weeks till death… our decisions come out the afternoon of the 15th right?
@mdchang99 Yeah! Around 5:00 ET
@T26E4 so does that mean a good interview would improve my chances?
My interview was two and a half hours long. I would posit that there exists a correlation between interview length and “fit”
You might be right, and I wish you well, but I think I’ll file this under “confirmation bias.” Other explanations exist, but I’ll leave that assignment to others :). Good luck!
@chichewaboy Here’s my thoughts on the “value” of interviews at Yale and its peers
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20037525#Comment_20037525
To your question: likely not. In very distinct scenarios, it might.
Although I would guess a report with serious negatives or red flags would be detrimental to someone on the bubble.
@T26E4 thanks!
What do you guys plan to do on the 15th? (Besides, like, go to school.) I normally would have bowling on the day but I might skip so I can spend with time with my family and check together. And most likely have a celebratory dinner before 5 (because if there is cause to celebration=yay, and if not, well, we didn’t know that )
The decision comes out while I’m in my last class, so I definitely won’t be checking at school. Will probably go home, do a little homework, then open up the portal to see my (best case scenario) deferral
So I had one of those late interviews, also. However, my interviewer said that it was not an alumni interview for admission, but a chance for me to ask questions about Yale and its programs. We talked about my interests, different opportunities that Yale has, and her own experiences there. Did any of you guys get contacted last minute for one of these informal sessions? I haven’t found anything online with some else having a similar encounter. Others sound like theirs were actual alumni interviews, where mine was via skype and super informal.
