how does the deferral letter look like for Yale???
Deferred letter:
Dear (insert name),
The Yale Admissions Committee has completed its evaluation of this year’s Single Choice Early Action candidates and has voted to defer action on your application. We will review your file again in the spring, and I will write to inform you of the outcome in late March.
I realize that this deferral may come as a real disappointment, especially if your early application was an indication that Yale is your first choice among schools. I also know that our decision means you will face an additional period of uncertainty.
Many deferred students would like us to provide an estimate of their chances for admission in the spring. Unfortunately, we can only tell you that we expect the rate of admission for deferred candidates from the early process to be about the same as the rate of admission for all Regular Decision candidates. The level of competition for places is extremely high, but we are committed to giving your application another careful review.
If we require information in addition to your Mid-Year Report, the admissions officer in charge of your area will write or call. We know that you will be an outstanding candidate for admission at many excellent colleges, and we look forward to another opportunity to consider your application to Yale.
@yalehopeful017 deferred but it’s okay I’m a second semester senior, finally have time to read all the books I’ve been dying to read but pushed off for finals, and am going to Disneyland tomorrow so nothing can really bring me down right now . Because come on how can you be anything but warm and happy when you think do Disneyland. At this point guys, we’re DONE second semester as long as you do well academically doesn’t really matter so have a little fun the bright side is that the stress is over
ACCEPTED!
I have been wondering the same thing. I was deferred as well and never got the chance to do an interview, which I would really like to do since I’m outgoing and friendly and love talking to adults. I’m wondering if I’ll be contacted for an interview or not.
@nate1991 Good luck in the regular round and have fun at Disneyland!
ah you guys are all giving me anxiety lol
accepted!
came as a surprise, as my scores were really subpar.
congrats to all those who made it - and to those who didn’t, best of luck with your other apps! this is just one of many amazing schools
Accepted! This is a surreal experience.
I’ve been watching this thread for months now but have never posted. You are a wonderful group of people and you will all do wonders no matter what school you attend.
@ws923 What were your scores?
@DreamforIvy blind submitted SAT 2’s: a 660 for Lit and 790 Math II , had a 33 ACT (35, 34, 32, 30)
I guess they aren’t kidding when they say it is a holistic process
@ws923 1) How is a 33 ACT subpar and 2) How is a 790 subpar?
You had amazing scores. Yes it’s holistic, but in your case your scores were high.
Ughh Deferred (tone of the letter seemed to emphasize that my son won’t get in RD)
ACT 34 (no prep courses, don’t have time for that with all extra curriculars he’s in charge of)
8 AP’s
Captain of varsity soccer team,
Captain of varsity basketball team
Co-captain robotics team (with 2 other co-captains)
Class president
College essay written on his own, no professional essay writer/editor, though teacher checked it over.
50+ hrs community service a year for same program for 5 years
oh, and ranked 1/203 in class
Yale interview went really well (he thought), as communication skills are his strength, and he actually enjoyed the interview.
Yale is his first choice, he hasn’t even really looked at other schools. I guess he really needs a plan B (and C?) now.
@Beaker21 What was the “tone” of the essay? I believe we all got the same essay. Also, I’m almost 100% sure that at least 90% of applicants write their own essay
His essay was on reinventing himself after a move to a new high school as a sophomore, how one can find and create opportunities through confidence and leadership. It’s hard for a teen to move 900 miles away, but making the best of what’s given to you is key. I guess he’ll have to follow his own advice and make the best of what school wants him and become a leader there.
@portugueselover That is generous of you. Like a true Yale student. I’d like to see how you told your amazing story through essay. Thank you.
@nate1991 @rebecca12345 Deferred
@Beaker21 We were wondering if the deferral letter was different from the one posted in #1442 above. We were assuming all the deferral letters were the same, but you noted that the tone of the one your S received was pessimistic.
What can deferred students do to increase their chances? Congrats to everyone who got accepted!
