Does anybody know how to find the contact of a regional admissions officer?
@yalehopeful017 :((((((((
Same letter @SkipWoosnam. Well, the fact that they said “The level of competition for places is extremely high…” as well as finishing with the fact that “you will be an outstanding candidate for admission at many excellent colleges” kind of implies (albeit slightly) that we are done here… My guess is that they word it that way to suggesting that he seriously start looking at other schools.
Some perspective from a deferred student: I’m very thankful that not getting into one of the most selective schools in the world is one of my primary problems.
Hi guys, does anyone know how good Yale is with financial aid? I was accepted but haven’t yet received my aid package yet. I know that if you earn less than 65k a year you dont have to pay tuition but does this also mean that I won’t be expected to make any financial contributions to Yale?
@Beaker21 - the level of competition IS extremely high, and given the number of competitive applicants for each spot, it would be beyond foolish for any applicant, no matter how qualified, to put all his eggs in an Ivy League basket. If your son hasn’t seriously considered other colleges this late in the game, then he’s skating on some very thin ice. Every year there are highly qualified students who apply only to ultra competitive schools, plus or minus a safety, and end up at their safety or being forced to take a gap year. Ivy League schools and the like are reaches for everyone. Make sure your son has a list that includes 3-4 target schools and some safeties, and good luck to him!
@chichewaboy Yale financial aid is very good, certainly among the most generous in the country, but there is a student contribution, both term time and summer, as part of the financial aid package. Latest details on newly implemented changes are here: http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2016/12/16/financial-aid-office-to-increase-support-for-low-income-students/
@chichewaboy You’ll have a summer earnings component and work study component that you’re responsible for. All in all, very makeable. It’s not “free tuition”-- it’s the entire cost of the education (incl travel, books, room & board) less Yale’s award, your outside scholarships and your component (work study and summer savings).
Kind of off topic, but for those SCEA kids, how did you distinguish which prompt you were responding to for the 200 word essays? Thanks and congratulations to all of you who got in early! You guys deserve it!
@PingThePanda They probably chose the prompts the same way the legions of deferred and denied kids did – which one really grabbed them
I think there’s no “magic” in what was chosen – but the true difference was what was produced.
Hey thanks, but I actually meant like how did they mark which prompt they were responding to for admissions officers’ reading ease.
I just want to say, you guys all seem like one of the most genuine and kind-hearted threads here on CC. Goodluck to all! Let’s end strong…just a few more days!
@PingThePanda I just did “2. blahblahblhablha” and “3. blahblabhalhba”. So teeechnically the max number of words is 199.
Was anyone else’s aid package delayed?
@PingThe Panda- you don’t have to do anything. Just answer the two questions you want. No descriptor needed. Don’t waste a word with using a # to tell the reader which you are answering. The answer itself will tell them! Good luck!!
@PingThePanda I’m not sure I completely agree with @jrtgsdrule. The multiple I know who applied to Yale all specified which essay they were answering. Unless you really need that one extra word, I would add the number just to make the admissions officer’s job easier.
Trust me, it won’t matter if you put the # in or leave it out. Do what makes you happy. My son was accepted SCEA and did not include a # or any title indicating his choice of essay. The committee is just trying to find out more about the applicant, so it is the content of the essays that matter. My very best wishes for a successful journey!!
accepted!! YALE 2021
@PingThePanda I used titles - with puns and alliteration and so on – which made it clear which prompt was being responded to. I spent a considerable amount of time thinking about titles, and I like to believe that they were one of the things that helped my essays stand out and contributed to my acceptance.
@therealthing my aid package was delayed.
