ACCEPTED so excited
hey accepted people, does anyone know when we get our shirts?
@swim1128 lol we get shirts?
@saviddilva yeah!
For deferred applicants - did your guidance counselor contact Yale to gain more info, and if so, what did they say? Also, when is the right time to send in the LOCI?
I asked my GC and she said they didn’t specifically say anything. Just said I was a strong applicant. I sent in a LOCI just yesterday saying what awards I got over the past few months. I also explained I thought I used my essays to explain extracurricular activities, and not my personality, then attached an essay I sent to Stanford, which I really liked.
@swim1128 I haven’t gotten my shirt yet. What about you?
@evanderwo17 I didn’t know we get a shirt! I’m still waiting.
I’m pretty sure if they gave out shirts they would have came with the acceptance letters and folder
I believe the shirt comes after you accept the offer.
In 2013, my D had hers before Bulldog Days, and they all wore them. She met some other accepted students on the train because they all had their shirts on. She did not commit till after Bulldog Days. Maybe they send them after RD acceptances and send them all together?
@musicmerit Thanks for the info- that makes sense. From what I’ve heard, they come before you commit, I just wasn’t sure when.
@evanderwo17 I haven’t gotten a shirt yet either, but I’m pretty sure they get sent out late Jan, so hopefully we get it soon!
Is it standard to get a handwritten letter from the admissions officer that read your application? I got one a couple days ago. Haven’t committed yet so maybe that’s why.
@saviddilva It’s probably pretty common, but it is a nice touch. My daughter got her letter today.
@swim1128 oh nice! I hope so!
Yesterday, DD received a letter from her AO with a hand written note at the end. I agree that it was a very nice touch.
Your shirt should come soon, whether you accept or not.
Yes, it is a tradition to get a handwritten letter from the AO that read your application. Remember, you are now in the driver’s seat and you are being courted. My D still has her letter and her actual admission package still sitting on the dresser in her room. It really does personalize the process.
Hi all,
I would like you get your views on one of the details of Yale’s SCEA rules. There has been a debate going on whether a student could apply SCEA to Yale and also apply EA to both Boston College and U Miami as the requirements for certain top level merit scholarships require an EA application to those schools.
I am clearly of the opinion that Yale SCEA + BC EA + UMiami EA is NOT allowed as it is clear from the following language on the Yale website:
This is from the Yale website:
QUOTE
Applying to Other Colleges and Universities
If you are a Single-Choice Early Action applicant to Yale, you may apply to another institution’s early admission program as follows:
You may apply to any college’s non-binding rolling admission program.
You may apply to any public institution at any time provided that admission is non-binding.
You may apply to another college’s Early Decision II program, but only if the notification of admission occurs after January 1. If you are admitted through another college’s Early Decision II binding program, you must withdraw your application from Yale.
You may apply to another college’s Early Action II program.
You may apply to any institution outside of the United States at any time.
UNQUOTE
The structure of the BC and UM EA application procedures clearly do not fall within one of these exemptions. Most people seem to agree with me on this issue but not all.
It would be good to get the views from Yale parents, alumni, applicants and students on this one as I am curious to see whether anyone else mistakenly broke the Yale SCEA rules. Thanks.
@londondad , What do the people who disagree say? Are thy claiming rolling admission or EA 2? I would expect that reading comprehension of text such as that quoted would be a minimum standard at Yale. Is this debate on CC?
Disclaimer: I’m on half a cup of coffee writing this. I might wish I had waited
