I'm very insure about next school year application season. Yale is my first-choice, literally if i got accepted i would accept the admission offer no less than a week. Next year since Harvard and Princeton reinstated their Restrictive Single Choice Early Action i'm thinking the Yale Restrictive Single Choice Early Action plan would be less competitive, since people who would much rather go to Princeton or Harvard would be out of the application pool. Also i'm coming from a mindset where all the major Schools HYPS would all have restrictive early action programs that it would be a little less difficult than past years. Yale is not a easy school to get into by far but i'm hoping ill have better chances. I'm African American, so the pool of applicants i smaller by far, and on the real i'm competing against other African Americans and Blacks. I'm a track athlete also i'm from Arizona which gives me geographic diversity. What is your input, what do u think. Theres a lot of Pros and Cons, and do i really have enough hooks that will make me stand out to the adcom. Also nothing from senior year is included as-well and do i want them to be updated.

If Yale is your first choice, what’s the dilemma? You’re going to apply early somewhere, yes? If not Yale, where? Do you expect to fill any major hole in your record after the early application deadline?

The dilemma is that i’m unsure if ill have the best chances applying early or waiting it out. I wouldn’t apply early to any binding or restrictive programs. But will next year the dynamic changes, because 2011 was the hardest year to get into college.

Your chances don’t change based upon what pool you apply. They’re the same. The higher admissions rate in SCEA comes from the fact that a) there’s a smaller pool and b) the smaller pool is more competitive than the RD pool. If you’re going to get in RD, you’re going to get in during EA. So, if Yale is your first choice, apply EA. (Plus, now that Princeton and Harvard have their own forms of SCEA, Yale knows that you’re more interested in them.)

Also, tallying your hooks isn’t an effective way to make this decision. They might not help you out as much as you think.

I Understand that, but i also have the stats that would make me competitive in this admission field. Though chances might be the same, which i doubt because usually Harvard and Princeton are the first choice of many. Basically it gets the super smart students out of the already competitive SCEA pool. Lastly because HYPS, have single choice early action this will limit the pool to genuine applicants.

1) It cannot hurt your chances (99.9% of the time makes no difference I think…)
2) It saves you hassle of doing 5+ more apps
3) Saves you cash
4) Gets you very happy in December

But everyone unhooked should expect to be rejected by Ivies, so don’t be optimistic; there are too many vals/uw4.0s/2400s applying. Stats are useless for predicting admission (though they are good at predicting rejection!).

I know that selective schools are not a safety for anyone, for example excellant canidates like silverturtle are getting rejected. I am just waying my options now sooner than later. Also i plan to work on the common application personal statement this summer. I wish that the common application wasen’t around because, its creations has made the application process eaiser but has also made it harder for applicants. I hope that schools will switch to their own personal application, because people would only apply because they want to, not apply because it’s a click away. I’m very postive, and i stand a very good chance in the admission process, but i’m also applying for competitions next year and if i win, i would like Yale to be notified. Next years SCEA will be a true symbol that you want Yale first because Stanford, Princeton, Harvard and Yale will all have restrictive single choice early action applications. Im appyling personally to 15 schools for a variety of options, which includes reaches, matches and safties. Which in theory makes me a hypocrite but still i have to look out for myself.
