Yale University Early Action for Fall 2023 Admission

I hope not, in some ways. My son goes to a small school in a very small and isolated city, and only two APs are offered. So the SAT was a way to add one more component to his application. I suppose in other circumstances it wouldn’t be necessary, for us I think it was. It was a lot of work to find a place to take it though - they kept cancelling them as there were never enough people. The most recent posted average SAT that I found (I guess before test optional) was 1520.

@BKSquared do you get multiple applicants assigned to you or just one at a time?

Usually comes in series if I have multiple interviews. My impression is the AO’s are sorting through apps and deciding which ones they want to interview on a rolling basis.

Northeast USA. Thanks all!

Congratulations!

Semifinalists are determined based on academic stats, ECs and leadership - all of which should already have been mentioned in your Yale app. So not really necessary to update Yale.

While it’s an honor, all you’re really telling Yale is “this other organization considers my achievements to be noteworthy” - but the admissions office wants to make their own determination. So providing this update isn’t really adding to your app, IMO.

Got it. Thanks so much for the advice

do you how the process differs for international students?

I believe they are evaluated in the same manner as domestic. When I worked overseas, I interviewed students who lived in my country of residence. I believe internationals are grouped into a separate international pool with probably soft quotas by country and for internationals in general.

Congratulations- this is really a very competitive scholarship. I think it’s worth providing an update to Yale, can only help you not hurt you.
