I think it confuses me given the sid is for matriculated students, and that they reffered us from undergrad admissions. So so confusing and super misleading lol
Yes! If anyone knows the concrete answer to this, please share. I really donât think it means anything, given that so many people received it
I know, I looked at last year and previous years and it looked like few applicants got this so weird
Financial aid is usually pretty mechanical. That is why their NPCs can be pretty accurate. They also very likely are doing things like tracking net tuition based on a yield model.
My understanding is most colleges therefore do this in parallel, and do not wait for the admit class to be set.
Admissions does not "reach out to financial aid " to say anything other than they received your completed application. Yale is need-blind. The FA office has to perform the analysis on all applicants requesting FA, but not in any applicants who sent in an incomplete application.
In my email, it said that the âadmissions has contacted us.â
From Yale: â The Office of Undergraduate Admissions has informed us of your intent to apply for need-based financial aid.â
Itâs all very automated so I think words like âcontactedâ are just lists being distributed.
I read this sentiment elsewhere by 3 different people that work in FA officesâŠ
At the university where I worked, the Financial Aid office computed awards for all applicants and did not wait for an acceptance from admissions to start the process.
At the university where I used to work, the financial aid office processed everyone who sent the school their FAFSA or who qualified for an automatic merit scholarship. They did not wait for admission decisions.
Where I work basic FA packages are run/created for all students that complete their application and send in all required FA docs. Admitted students then may get revised FA packages due to merit offered or whatever reason is seen fit.
Thank you! Now I know what this Yale id really means, and it had no correlation!
I called the admissions office. SIDs are assigned to all applicants for financial aid purposes as soon as you apply. If you end up being accepted, you keep that number. Other than that, it means nothing. Hope to put this to rest once and for all!
If yâall need any more confirmation that an SID does not relate to admissions, here it is from an official Yale source: âWhereas the 9-digit SID number beginning with â9â is assigned to all prospective students during the admissions processâ
Does CSS info mismatch with common app extracurricular list prevent admissions? For context I applied to Yale finaid, and on my extracurriculars on common app I indicated I have work (paid job). However, on my CSS profile and my IDOC I indicated my student income is 0 because all those income I directly give to my parents and I do not file a separate tax return. Would this make them raise an eyebrow considering I indicated I work yet say I have an income of 0? Should I contact them to clarify?
I doubt they are actually trying to cross-check information in the way you are suggesting. I do wonder, though, if you properly filled out the CSS Profile. My understanding is even non-tax-filers are supposed to report their income, and that IDOC has a non-tax-filerâs statement for such cases. If this was a mistake you can correct your CSS Profile.
Does anyone have tips for a yale interview?
ok i made like $15 an hour but it was low enough where i didnt need to sub tax forms other than when i began working at my internship so i filled out $0. i think youâll be fine
be real!
ok no be prepped for in depth answers bc i talked about how i worked at an antique store and my interviewer grabbed on to that and asked me examples of significant objects i worked with, why they mattered to me etc
This is accurate. You report your income and then have the choice of âI have filed my taxes, I intend to file my taxes, or I am not filing.â The IDOC will prompt you to upload either your tax forms, or the Non-Filer Statement. But you still list your income. If I remember correct they asked for both my kidâs W2 and the Non Tax Filerâs Statement.
Even if you give the money to your parents, if you have earned more than $600 as non employee contribution (self employed) and received 1099 nec from the employer then you should pay the taxes and upload the return document. The threshold to file return is different if you received W2/1099. I believe when you file the non tax payer form, you should provide the justification for not filing taxes
This is official as well,

Admitted/matriculated students get an SID starting with 8. Prospective students get an SID starting with 9.
