yale v. columbia v. emory MPH programs

I am a current senior and I was just accepted to the MPH programs at yale, columbia and emory (all in social/behavioral science related concentrations at the respective schools). I am looking to apply to medical school after I get my MPH with the hopes of going into oncology/ using my public health degree to help with community based prevention/ programming related to cancer.

I have no idea which school to pick as all have great research opportunities/professors etc. Does anyone have any insight, I will take any and all advice!

I go to Columbia’s school of public health (for a PhD) and I also applied to all of those places. At this point, it’s really just about preferences and research interests. If they all have great researchers doing interesting oncology research, and all have nearby hospitals or medical schools at which you can volunteer (which they do) - then just pick the one you like the best. Columbia and Emory are both in the top 10, but Yale isn’t that far behind (last time I checked it was #13.)

My advice would be to visit all three places and, given you said they appear on par for research and such, make the call based on “fit” and on finances. If you are planning on Medical School, you have a long way to go in that regard! Congrats to you, though. Great choices!!

You mentioned you are a senior…and you got accepted into these programs.

Is it common for students to go straight to grad school for MPH because a lot of schools require health-care related work experience…

Let me know… I am currently a junior and hoping to apply to grad school right after I get my BSc.

Thanks!
