I don’t believe those numbers are as up to date as you think. They are based on getting a NetID which lags a few days after accepting on the portal. So it wouldn’t show those who waited until the last few days to commit (which is probably a fairly large # this year due to uncertainty of fall for all colleges).
1415 as of May 3rd according to the (probably unreliable) # NetID
If it’ll help, I committed to Yale on May 1 and I still have not received an email to confirm my NetID. This means the number of 1415 might be a little low since it doesn’t account for people who waited until May 1 to commit. Once I get my NetID activated, I’ll let you guys know what the enrollment number is.
Yes, NetIDs have not been issued as of now for those that committed on 4/30 either. So I suspect there are a fair amount more than 1415.
Are kids taking gap years included in the NetID numbers?
@ajivesquare i think that, prior to requesting a deferral, most admitted students accept their offer of admission, so i assume they are also included in this number. since many people want to pursue a gap year bc of the pandemic, the number of net IDs doesn’t seem like a legitimate way of determining the number of ppl that will be taken off the waitlist
Hey guys I’m committed to Yale at the moment, and I thought I would update you on that the enrollment from NetID is looking like. I committed on May 1, so I should be among the last batch to have the Ids activated. I just checked the directory and the enrollment was 1485. Granted, not everyone who committed late has had the chance to register with Yale connect, but I’ll keep you guys updated on everything.
does anyone have any idea about the approximate class size yale may aim for this year? is it ~1750 or less?
@24intstudent i believe they are aiming for a class size of about 1554 people.
It has been 1485 all day, so the users in the directory must have been set up in batches when the netid is created on their end, not necessarily when someone activates.it.
Probably unreliable, but I now see the count for the Yale 2024 group on Campusgroup (after activating netID) to be 1509 (compared to 1303 I saw yesterday)
If I remember correctly, the deadline for submitting a gap year application was May 1, at least for all domestic students including prefrosh.
The 2024 Group # has some faculty. The directory # for incoming undergraduate is probably more accurate and currently is at 1497.
So the yield is only 65%? 1497 out of 2304.
I’m not sure the 1497 contains those that already deferred, so it is likely higher based on the way they have calculated it in the past. Here is how it was quoted from last year’s incoming class:
This year, Yale admitted 2,269 students — 1,554 became members of the class of 2023, and 53 students postponed matriculation, denoting a yield rate of 70.1 percent.
(1554+53)/2269 = ~70%
The yield also includes people who are accepted off the waitlist, which hasn’t happened yet.
I expect around 50 people to be accepted off of the waitlist if the 1497 number doesn’t change significantly.
Do those who get accepted off the waitlist also get added to the # admitted (denominator)? So if 50 get off the waitlist, is it now 2304+50=2354 admitted?
@nycnycnycnyc I believe so, since Yale last year initially reported they’d admitted 2178 students on Ivy Day and then reported in September they’d admitted 2,269 (presumably including those accepted off the waitlist).
I think they also exclude Questbridge matches when it comes to acceptance rate #s – for example last year I think it was 2269 total admitted, including 55 Questbridge and waitlist + 2178 reported admitted at Ivy Day (early + regular)
FYI, it shows 1541 Incoming Undergraduate now.
