Yale Young Global Scholars 2017

Hi everyone! I’m back again, and I will be applying to YYGS 2017 after being waitlisted last year. I can’t wait to hear from others who are applying, and what the results might be this year

btw, do you guys think that the earlier you submit, the better or nah?

Hey, I might be applying!

I also might be applying for YYGS. I’m interested in the International Affairs & Security program.

That’s so cool @Kastelano ! Where are you from and which grade are you in?

Which session are you interested in? @KG5APR

So excited to apply this year!

@yayaylearner I am a sophomore from Massachusetts. What about you?

@Kastelano I’m a junior in Canada! @Eva12344 Which session are you interested in? And how old are you? (I’m not creepy lol)

Haha I made the thread for last year too so I’m super excited to see how many people will post on this thread this year~ It’s still sorta early in the application process though so who knows

I’m applying this year for PLE!

hahah @yayaylearner I’m a sophomore. First choice is BMS and second choice is PLE, but they both look amazing. Have you applied before? @yayaylearner

@Eva12344 yea I have! I applied for BBS last year and I wanted to only be considered for that one, but I got waitlisted

I’ve heard that PLE is super awesome! (but I mean, the whole program sounds amazing lol) @"Mvnk "

Is anyone applying to the Beijing camp which is in February? Does anyone have thoughts on it?

Do you guys want to post stats for those of us who will be applying?

Hey guys! I’m a YYGS alum from 2016. I did IAS, I would be glad to answer some of your questions about applying or the experience. Good luck to you all!

@yerin2021 hi there! By any chance, may I know what grade you were in when you applied? And what are some tips you would give us in terms of the application?

@yayaylearner I was a junior when I applied. The program seems to place a lot of weigh on your essays and recommendation letters. Put a lot of time into your essays and pick teachers who really like you. Give your teachers your resume and drafts of application essays so they can write good letters for you. It is also important to have good grades and show your commitment to an activity(s). At the program, everyone seemed to have something that was really unique about them. So make sure to show the AO what you are passionate about.

I personally don’t recommend the program. Here’s why :

  1. The lectures and assignments are average. No rigor whatsoever.
  2. It's expensive. It costs $5,500( or even more now.) Reminder : it's a TWO week program.
  3. The program does not increase the likelihood of getting into Yale.
