Ok, first:
Bad freshmen grades (b's, c's)??? How bad is that going to look??
What are GOOD EC's???

Join as many clubs as possible, even if you have no interest in the club, i.e. be designated as a "Clubber" by Adcoms. Try and participate in as many activities as possible without getting serious about any particular one.

uh, i don't think that's good advice. the opposite route would probably be better. choose a few clubs: 3, maybe 4, that you can and will put a lot into. get leadership positions in the club; make sure you're actually doing things, not just hanging out meetings afterschool.

that sort of dedication is what stands out on college apps. besides, the only give you so much space to list all your clubs/activities...

and jaymantrucker: if you were being sarcastic, forgive me. =)

i agree much more with twinkle on this one, 3-4 clubs, reallllly get involved and become a leader, show that you are interested in something, dedication as twinkle said, and such, that will help you more than joining as many clubs as possible =) (yes i think jay may have been sarcasitc lol)

Freshmen Grades??

Better start applying to community college I wouldnt let you in me (My name is Yale) with grades like that.

YOUR name is Yale?? If it is thats the coolest name I've ever heard of!

my name is early decision

jaymantucker that's the worst advice i've ever seen on this forum. don't listen to him, they care much more about dedication. idiot.

Yeah...they do care about dedication and leadership, most definitely. I'm new to my school (junior) and it sucks because I'm in about 9 clubs/activities but can't score a leadership position. I'm hoping to get one next year.

Now all I have is treasurer...BAH.

I hate people like you.

You hate people like ME? WHY???

joins every club, no real passion. The kids that are just there... There's no way anybody can be passionate about 10 different club.s

Excuse me, but you don't know a damn thing about me. All of the clubs are things I ENJOY doing. I'm freaking passionate about writing, okay? About 4 of those clubs deal with writing... The others are community service oriented and things like Best Buddies, which help with the school's handicapped children. I've volunteered at handicapped children's home for 4 years.

So how about not judging me again? Yes, I do have passion, and I can prove it to admissions and even MY GUIDANCE COUNSELORS AND TEACHERS KNOW IT!!!!!!!!!!

If you're passionate, then surely your peers will see it and give you a leadership position. I mean in at least one of your nine clubs, this must be the case.

Well, it's a little tough when mostly all the leadership positions were discussed LAST YEAR when I wasn't THERE.

::takes deep breath::

True, he doesn't know what he's talking about...

In that case, best of luck.

You can be passionate about 10 clubs. My school has over 300 of them. I've found about 50 interesting ones, but I'm only go to some meetings for about 15 or so. Leadership in 4.

Oh, you aren't going to Yale.
