I didn’t know what i wanted to be in grade 9 and I’ve had some bad grades and i was wondering if I could still enter Yale if i i did better in my 10th, 11th and, 12th grade years of high school.
Would they look back at my grades and say no or would they just look at 11 and 12th. This is like my dream school
English -85, Math-65, Science-74, Geography- 80, French-85
@Beckie7888 - it is great you are thinking about your future - but now is not the time to focus on one school.
You should focus on HS - get good grades, do interesting things, figure out your strengths.
There are so many AMAZING colleges in the US - focusing on only one (especially one that lets in so few students) is not a very solid plan.
You have a few years before you have to make a college list.
Enjoy HS, do well on your SATs, find some interests and nurture those for a few years.
Best of luck.
That 65 and 74 will be really hard to recover from, and even the B’s for that matter. Unless you get straight A’s in AP or IB courses in 11th and 12th grade, I would not put my hopes on Yale.
You also have to understand that even if you did that, you need to have wow-ing extra-curriculars or national awards or something that will catch the eye of people looking to admit you in such a place.
But honestly, its possible if you just work hard.
People talk about grade inflation at Yale, but about 10% of the cohort in introductory quantitative classes get Cs or Ds. Three quarters of Yale students score a 740 or above on the math portion of the SAT. If you continue to really struggle in math and science in high school (I would consider your current grades weak), ask yourself whether you would be happy attending Yale and what your career outlook would look like if you repeatedly scored in that bottom 10%.
It’s great to aim for a school, but too often the focus is getting in and not the reality of what life is like once you attend.
