Yale's Directed Studies

Does it sound like I'm counting my chickens if I mention directed studies in the "WHY YALE" response? Honestly, I'm not even sure if I can get in to the college itself, let alone DS.

Also, if I mention DS in the WHY YALE response, they might think that I am not looking forward to anything else but DS and might think that if I don't get accepted to the program, I might not make useful time at Yale.

It is a legitimate draw; you can mention it.

Also, even if you get initially rejected from DS, you’ll still be able to weasel your way in later. As my roommate told me “If you want to take DS, you’ll take it.”

My Why Yale was about ds.
I’d just make sure you have something else in your app that has something to do with DS. Philosophy/lit/history classes at least, or else it looks a bit weird?
Also your second concern - the interview is a great time to talk about other reasons why you want to go to yale. I’m 99.9% sure that question will be asked in an interview.
And everything anyone writes for “Why Yale” operates on the fact that theyre not sure if they can get into the college!! That’s a funny thing to point out!

Actually, I know someone else in '13 that put their “Why Yale” as its DS program.
