Yankees at UGA?

I'm thinking of applying to the University of Georgia but before I decide to potentially spend four years of my life there I was wondering if there was any hostility towards northerners at UGA? I mean I expect the typical Yankee jokes and such but do people from up north eventually integrate well or will there always be a stigma attached me because I'm not a southerner.

Although I do not go to the University of Georgia, I do go to another southern state school (University Of South Carolina). And just like you, I came from up north, PA to be exact. I am currently only a freshman, but in my one month here I have loved this place. I think USC is around 20-30% OOS and I seem to fit in with everybody. I also think the people down in the south are really nice and I don't find them to be hostile towards anyone. In fact, my roommate is from SC, yet he is the only one my my floor who is from here. I have not regretted my decision to take the 11 hour trip down to USC. Also, I did visit in April after I was accepted and that is when I made my decision. Visiting definitely will help you decide.

Why UGA? I guess I'm in the opposite position- I'm a Southerner from Georgia and couldn't be PAID to apply to UGA- even though I would qualify for a full scholarship. But then again, I found my peers in GA to be VERY hostile (as a Jewish "carpetbagger" despite the fact that I moved to GA when I was 2) and the environment at UGA followed suit. I wouldn't think you'd get that much crap for being from the North, but people do make fun of how you say things. That would be the same no matter where you go outside of your area though.
