Yay:

I got waitlisted at Brooks! Yay :D That's better then Rejection!!! Anyway, I LOVE Brooks, everyone was so nice and cheerful, and the facilities were so clean. Also, they have great couses for a small school! :) Now I just have to wait for AESD, ST. Mark;s, ext!! :D

Congrats prepster.. my D also just got WL at Brooks ... amazing ,,,
at 11:59 no information .. 12:00 .. the notice appeared. Nice school and
very competitive. She applied as a day student with FA.

Anyone know what the chances are of making it in off the WL? D says it is
her first choice. How big is the shell game and how long will it take? They do not want contact from us until the 27th.

Do you think one of the reasons you two got waiting lists is because you applied to more competitive schools?

Schoolsearcher - If it is her number one choice you should definitely notify the school. At some schools it can help you get off the waitlist faster since they know she will matriculate. How many kids get off the waitlist varies by year, but there is almost always turnover especially at schools that are not AESD.
Good luck with the rest of the day and decisions.

Sorry about the waitlist for both of you. However, it is better than rejection so there is still a chance. When the activity settles down on this board, you might want to post for info about waitlists. I think it really varies by school and by year, but there are things you can do -- like letting them know that you will attend if accepted and bringing new accomplishments to their attention.

I have a feeling that waitlists will see a good deal of movement this year. I still believe -- contrary to one report that I heard -- that the pool of applicants is not appreciably larger than last year, while the number of applicants has increased. (In other words, more applications per applicant.) This, in turn, means yields will be lower. And unless acceptances were increased on the first wave, there's a greater likelihood that there will be some activity on the wait lists.

This opinion ranks somewhere on the reliability scale between the Magic 8 Ball and the usual "somewhat informed" opinions presented here. I won't get into a fist fight with anyone who contends that it's barely noticeably to the right of the Magic 8 Ball on that continuum...but I still believe, in a rational way, that that's how things will shake out.

To support D'yer's argument:
SPS 1100 applicants- most ever - acceptance rate 22% - I believe higher than last year. Seems like SPS is making the same presumption as D'yer.
