Hey everybody, My name's Alex and I'm from Iowa. I was curious as to what everybody's opinion is about my "chances"at the University of Minnesota...I applied to the Carlson school.

My stats are as follows:
-GPA(unweighted): 3.65/4.00
-ACT plus writing: 32 in every category, including english+writing, 11 essay
-I've only taken a few honors class and one AP, my school doesn't offer many AP opportunities.
-Lettered in Golf, previous tennis player.
-CF High School Rotary Club representative. Spanish Club. Volunteer at mother's school.
-Work in a restaurant for 20 hours a week.
-Not a whole lot more...All of this seems to keep me relatively busy.

So please let me know what you think my chances are for acceptance and also if there's any possibility of me receiving a scholarship. I have no idea if I have a legitimate chance at a scholarship...that may seem like a reach.

I also wonder why Iowa is not included in this Midwest tuition agreement thing. That kind of ****es me off. I live 3 hours away from Minneapolis, yet someone who lives a 15 +/- drive away in Northern Michigan gets to pay 8,000 dollars less a year than I do. I hate Iowa.

Haha, thanks for any and all replies!
Alexander

probably prety good. Your ACT is good, but your GPA is a wee bit low. But then again the average ACT for Carlson is 28.2... I got into IT, which has about the same averages as Carlson with a 31, and 3.7.

No way?!!! I would love to just get 5,000$/year. Are you in-state? And did you just have a **** ton of EC's?

Also---I noticed something on the site today. It said that physics is required for Carlson. I have taken BiologyA, ChemA, and AP Biology along with Physical Science. Are they really that stringent about Physics as long as you have 4 full years of science?

yep i'm instate. The scholarships are a crapshoot in my opinion. I didn't have a ton of ECs, just a few that i was really involved in. my counselor explicitly told me that physics is required for Carlson. if you didn't take physics, you need to call the school and them that you're going to make room for that class in your schedule, and obviously you'll have to follow through with it.

Should i call them now, before I have been accepted to let them know about the physics issue and tell them I'll get the class on my schedule if I attend?

Well I called and she just said she'd have a counselor contact me. I don't think it should be a problem...we don't have an AP Physics class at my school, and I definitely wanted to get an AP course in for my sciences this year. AP Biology is much more challenging than any Physics A/B course at my high school.
