yes, another asian kid in need of stanford advice :-)

o yeah, can you guys also "chance" met @ HYP, uhm washu, northwestern, and even the BA/MD programs offered, thanks

Hmmm...In my opinion, you have a decent chance at Stanford...certainly not a guaranteed in (but then again, who is?), but you have a shot, so I would say work hard on that app and you may be surprised :)

HYP...I would say are reaches for you, but again, from your stats I'd say you have at least some chance

I'd say Wash U and Northwestern are matches for you...you should be able to get into at least one of those

Enjoy the rest of your summer

Chance me back?
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=372096%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=372096</a></p>

the millionth bump....

bumpppppppp

Hmmm, it's been a while since I've been to this post, so will someone please eval me? Again, primarily Stanford SCEA but also Washu and Northwestern and perhaps even the 7-year program at NW

In my opinion, its 50/50 for you. The numbers look good, but you are going to really need to work on presenting a person who is more than just numbers, and I would strongly caution against doing this by talking about past misbehaviors because they may wonder if this is fully out of you; however, it is your essays that will most help in giving adcoms an image of you outside the classroom. In other words, you need to show you aren't a math grind, all numbers asain male, a.k.a. a Jian Li (google him). Just something to contemplate.

superscoring a 2400 ain't gonna raise your chances.

icanread....yes, i realize superscoring a 2400 generally won't help, but my 680 on the CR isn't terribly impressive either. considering that CR is a reliable predictor of college success (in some form), I'd figure that improving to an 800 may demonstrate effective worth ethic and--more importantly--that I DO have the potential to get better. I'm not retaking the SAT to solely see a "2400" on my score report.

Any score over 2250 is not statistically different from one of 2400. Just fyi.

I didn't realize that, ses. That's interesting. Does that come from summing all the lowest scores from each section in the "score ranges" (760-800, etc...)? If so, my math and writing are fine, but my CR still suffers, so even though I might be overall okay SAT-wise, my CR still sucks cuz i doubt CR score range is from 680-800?

That's the sum. In order to be statistically significant you'd have to score 50 points higher or lower on a given section, hence 150 points total.

I see...So, that's why I intend to retake the SAT CR section, to improve significantly....not just do it for a higher score

I think what ses refers to as statistically significant differs from "improving significantly."

I don't advise you to take LIT if you scored 680 on CR. IMO lit is the hardest test. You truly need to be a voracious reader to even break 750. Considering that you are asian, possibly immigrant, and you are so strong in math/science, I take it that language is your weak point. Take US HIST instead. I don't know about your science awards, but national Chem Olympiad is certainly impressive. By looking at your app, you seem to have a definite passion for chem. More importantly, your passion is supported by awards and an 800 sat II. If you write your essay about chem, you will stand a formidible chance at admission.
