Yes, another NCP Thread

Ill try to be brief and concise

-Parents were never married, live seperately
-Dad (NCP) offers sporadic contact. Called me last week to tell me he was moving OOS. I have no address, email, or anything. He doesnt answer calls, he only calls me.
-Has offered no support (ex. Child support, school expenses, etc)
-Has refused to give fin. information and doesnt file taxes.

Applying to four colleges: Harvard, Duke, Brown, Michigan

Michigan has already waived. I havent filed the waiver for the other three? Should I go for the waivers, or am I going Blue?

Michigan has granted the waivers…and you were accepted EA. great news (hope you are instate for UMich so they will meet your need).

YES…file for the other waivers. Do it immediately. Those other schools require NCP info. Without the waivers, they will not process your request for institutional aid without the NCP form.

What are you waiting for?

I think this means the OP would go to Michigan (Go Blue!). Which may only make sense if he/she is in-state, as OOS FA may not be great there even with the waiver.

I am in-state, and low income. I’ve also already received a based merit based scholarship, and am hopimg for more. My questiom was more sarcastic. Do I have a chance at a waiver, or should I not waste my time?

Go for it.

It’s just a hunch, but I think when parents have never been married and haven’t lived together…and there’s been little contact and no support that it’s easier to get these waivers.

It’s just my gut feel that colleges are more sympathetic to those situations.

I did NPC waivers at four of the colleges my son applied to. They all required the same thing… Guidance counselor had to answer the three questions. I then added some additional documents from the divorce.

You have an odd situation where he may be financially able to contribute but would rather be a ghost. I am not sure if all the colleges will waive but it’s worth a shot.

In our case my ex is disabled, mentally Ill and an addict. The waiver was granted by all colleges with no problems or questions.

Give it a go. You call each school and see what each requires. It takes time, it’s a pain, you have to decide if it’s worht the options you are giving yourself. I would recommend doing it. I would do it, personally.

Absolutely apply for the waivers!

Good luck! (although, personally, I think blue’s not a bad color . . . ;))

Thanks for the support everyone! I have all of the third party letters and all of the forms, and I’m sending them off tomorrow! I hope it all pans out. And of course, if not, I would be much more than happy to Go Blue!

Waived by Duke!!

Excellent news! :)
