Alright. So I'm dead cert about doing Computer Science. At which of the schools do I have the best chance of getting in?

Stats:
Pathetic SATs - 720M, 710W, 620CR - 2050
2250+ SAT II (Physics, Chemistry, Math II)
Straight As. Top 5 in batch of 200.
Great ECs.
Great Reccos.
Toughest possible course load in school.
Good essays(I think. I don't like anything I write, but my counselor & teachers like 'em).

That's too little info for us to make any judgements. 'Great ECs, great recs, great essays, great courseload'... lol. Might as well just send in your college app with the word GREAT on a blank piece of paper.

My point is that most HYPMS applicants have GREAT ____ (fill in the blank). Unless you actually tell us what you have done, we don't have any reliable information to go on. Based primarily on your stats, however, I'll take a stab at it and say that you are not going to have a good chance of admission to the schools in your thread title.

By the way, uh.. somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but HYPMS NEVER give out ANY merit scholarships whatsoever. All scholarships are financial aid. Which makes me reluctant to take the rest of your post at face value. If a 2040, non-hooked (not minority, not athlete, not legacy, not world class musical/artistic prodigy) kid from your school got into Yale, maybe your school is not very competitive. Maybe there are other factors we don't know about (maybe she's a legacy and didn't tell anybody). Regardless, a 2050 is somewhat low for all the elites even if you do come from a mediocre school. If your school uses Naviance, go on and check to see what kind of stats your upperclassmates have gotten into your target schools with.

Well, my school counselor told me that she'd got 100% merit aid. I too was under the impression that HYPMS just give out FA ... Since my cousin also graduated from Yale and he got 100% aid.

As for the yale girl, she was not legacy/athlete/world class artist(she did do some classical indian dance though).

I agree with amb3r: Ivies absolutely do not give out merit-based aid. It's all financial-based. Your counselor may have some of the facts wrong, its very possible. Perhaps she got privately funded corporation scholoarships, based on merit, to fund her?

As for your chances, I think it is a bit of a reach for HYPS, but isn't it that way for us all? If you have a HUGE hook or something, there's a chance. Otherwise, without knowing your EC's, essays, I can only pass judgement on your test scores. They are a bit lower than the median reported from these schools, but that's not to say you don't have a chance. Good Luck.

I understand that Stanfords accademics and reputation is similar to HYP, but other than that they're pretty opposite. Isn't there more to college than prestige. DOn't get me wrong, I consider prestige imortant as well but I would never consider Stanford. The environment just isn't my cup o' tea. I don't get it but what ev.

i'm with jsmall. stanford just wasn't my scene.

Anyway, with those stats you probably won't get into those schools unless there is a building named after you. And of course if you're not getting into your schools then you are surely doomed. The closest you will ever get to computer science is operating the electronic cash register at Denny's.

(edit: yes, that was sarcastic, and mocking your approach to college admissions which is clearly based on prestige and nothing but. Prestige is nice, but far from the be-all end-all of college)

Honestly, applying to ONE prestige school with your stats doesn't make much sense. It might make sense to apply to several (including some that are less selective than HYPS), if you really want to go to one of them.

Also...I know everything is relative...but I get awfully tired of people here referring to SATs like 2050 as "pathetic." You should remember how many people would give their right arms for scores anywhere near that.
