2100 + gpa?

I am in a very competitive, nationally regarded high school. I scored just over 2100 on my SAT's and an 800 on my math and and chem subject tests.

I am taking mostly AP and honors courses.

What minimum UNWEIGHTED GPA must I have to get into a HYSM?

3.9+...imo

There is no minimum GPA.
There was a kid on CC that got into Stanford with a 1700 SAT. He was not recruited as an athlete.

With so many well qualified candidates, colleges pick the ones that are unique. This is why low numbers won't break you, but a poor essay will.

Agreed^ . Although having solid scores can only help you, it's ultimately the ECS and essays that the Adcoms will base their decision on. You can have perfect scores, but if your personality is flat as pie, no top college will take you.

So are your guys suggesting a couple pf "B's" on a junior year transcript is not the death knell for a top tier university?

^yes, a couple of B's won't ruin your chances

But an essay that contains multiple puctuation/grammar mistakes will-or you can just write that you're pro-facism.

I remember reading somewhere that most people who were accepted into Yale had "had a wholesome mixture of A's and B's on their transcript."

A few "blemishes" here and there indicate you are mortal. Mortal is better than perfect.

why is everyone on CC preoccupied with HYPSM? god forbid you end up attending a plebian
institution like Penn or Dartmouth

Aren't you? The guy who retook a 2370? If you're not obsessed with HYPSM, I don't know what you are obsessed with.

he's not obsessed, arachnotron.
he has a personal goal, and he's pursuing it.

If pursuing that goal doesn't keep you away from dedicating more time to your essays or ec's, from searching for another possible scholarship, making sure you know as much as you can about the school you really want to go to, in other words, consolidating your position, then it's Ok. Otherwise, as the old saying goes, sometimes you need to leave well enough alone.

the reason that i don't consider the SAT a waste of time is that I don't study for the SAT. i did 7 or so practice tests in the summer but I will never study again. if i were neglecting my classes and doing 5 practice tests a week then you would have a valid point. and I'm most likely applying to Penn ED next year.

^That's like all you need to ever study for the SAT, haha. SAT is basically getting used to the format, it's like you're going to get worse at math, CR and grammar rules.

Then you are good. Go for it.

GPA doesn't matter as much as course load. Colleges would rather see mixed grades in Honors and AP classes than straight-A's in easy classes.
