Hi Everyone,

I'm a first-time poster here on CC, so please go easy on me, lol.

I'm an undergraduate student who is interested in attending the Nell Hudgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University next year. I currently attend two community colleges in the state of Georgia, taking courses at both institutions in order to complete my general education and Nursing pre-requisites. I did not always plan on transferring to Emory--primarily because I never believed I was Emory material--but have gained increasing interest in the school, and would like to try and apply.

My issue is that I've taken a few online classes (e.g., English 1101 & 1102, Political Science, etc.) in the past. I realize that Emory does not award credit for online courses, and require these classes in order to be considered for the Nursing program. Therefore, would it be in my best interest to re-take those classes on campus? Or should I not even consider applying to Emory?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Will any nursing programs accept your online coursework?

Yes–the community colleges I attend each have two-year RN programs, which accept online credit. Also, Kennesaw State University and Georgia State University and their Nursing schools award credit for online coursework.

That’s a tough question then, as it sounds like you have several classes to retake if you plan to apply to Emory. I guess I can only recommend that you do some diligent work in determining if you have a reasonable shot at transferring to the nursing program at Emory or not. I’m not sure what they post on their website as far as number of people accepted, stats, etc., but that would be the first place to start. If they don’t post information, try giving them a call. Also ask on the Nursing Major subforum here on CC.

I’m assuming money might also be a concern, if so, you need to weigh that factor in along with the admissions aspects of applying to Emory. If you are accepted, Emory is going to be 50k+ per year COA, will you be able to afford that along with spending the time to retake coursework? Will you qualify for FA?

Just some thoughts, sorry I can’t be more help, I’m not that familiar with nursing programs.
