I didn't know you would go there, but I certainly knew you were considering it. The give-away is in your earlier post; to wit

I had a horrible relationship with my statistics teacher, and I asked my EA college, University of Chicago, if I could drop it.

I'm gonna side with keeping the class. I'm in the same situation (kinda) as you. I'm a transfer student to Michigan, and I'm taking Calc 2 right now. Having pulled an A out of my *** in Calc 1, I've really learned to... just buckle down in Calc 2. I'm not getting exactly the high grade I need (B-...ugh) but I know what I need to do now.

I'm probably spending 3-4 hours a day on it, 5-7 days a week. But my class only meets twice a week, and with only 2 tests and 10 quizzes, grades are hard to come by.

I feel that Calculus, is a class that most students aiming for top universities should at least attempt. It's really the general weeder course of top colleges I think, and rightly so. It's damn hard to understand, and harder to execute. While other posters have made the idea that some ppl just plain suck at math, most of the students that do bad, is just from a lack of effort.

So I say, keep it up. Spend more time studying, and possibly try a different studying guide. Best of luck! And Congrats on Duke!

Not that you should take this as a model example, but a friend of mine was accepted to Dartmouth and earned a D in calculus that semester. Dartmouth didn't mention anything.

Ha, Andrew.....Don't freak out just go to WML! You're lucky you know where you're going, checking the status of my apps to my 10 other schools is starting to get really annoying. Good luck with calc, I also agree that it sux.

You don't need the 3 hour rule. I took Bio at a college as a HS freshman and I didn't need to study unless I missed class. And my prof liked to throw things on the test that weren't even covered in lectures! Really - it's not that hard. With math, you just need to kill yourself tellign yourself that you needdd to do it. I know I loive the feeling when I just "got it". I'm not a math/science kid either.. I'm a total humanities kid. I'm actually behind in math. you just need to force yourself.. tell yourself theres no other way.
