My friend got into UCSD with a 3.6UC GPA and 960 SAT Score. But what probably got her in was the fact that she had fantabulous essays.

lol. beat the record. i know someone wiht 990 whos in..

i though htats a wrold record

Woah. Is she a disadvantaged minority?

She also probably had other outstanding factors that boosted her points.

she probably had high sat ii scores cuz they weight sat ii scores twice as much as the sat i score

Umm.. no. She had no ECs worth mentioning.

She's Indian? Is that a "disadvantaged minority" ?

and I think her household is low income.. so maybe... but still... her grades and SAT stink.. how could she even meet the cut off?

haha. but what kind of "indian" Native American or India

from India

There are a lot of considerations here that could keep us speculating for as long as we wanted to spend the time. One has to do with language acquisition and how they saw it affecting her scores, another might have to do with a special talent, and a third might be recommendations or essays that we will never know about. I assume the admission people know more than I do about who will feast and who will starve at their university. SATs and GPAs are only two, albiet overated, considerations. If you got in congratulations, if you didn't this is a good time to move on with your life.

Well said, Mr.B.

There are always those people who will appeal and get rejected and appeal agian and again and again until the school year starts.

They are probably wishing that their presevearance (sp?), determination, and overal spunk can give them some brownie points. :)

My friend who got in as i posted above here highest sat 2 was 650 in US history the others were low 500's and the major was political science(which i believe is a popular major too).

you don't need high SAT scores but apparently you DO need a decent GPA. I got rejected with my 3.4/1460.
