Hey every one,
so I have taken the SAT once, the June SAT and I got:

CR - 540
M - 660
W - 600
Total - 1800

I am hoping to hit a 2100, but I have heard from a lot of people that to get in the 2100 - 2400 you have to have a gifted ability. That, if you didn't score in that range the first time, then simply hard work wont be able to bring you up that high. In other words, you either had it all along or you didn't.

I'm not sure the validity of that, but if you all could tell me any approaches you all took to make a 300 point raise (more or less) that would be great.

For the first test, I did a few practice test out of the college board blue book.

The veracity of the above statement is utter bull****. Whoever told you that is either an elitist 2200+ or somebody who is just so clueless that their brains have deteriorated into complete ignorance.

I know tens maybe hundreds of people who did not receive a 2100 the first time and did not understand how to approach it. These same people probably received 2100-2200 with 1-2 months prep.

I started out with below a 2000 as well. Basically, there is no gifted ability for taking the SAT; it's more how WELL you know the SAT and how you approach its standardized problems. I'm sure other users on this forum would agree with me.

First off. I think that a 2100 is not really the borderline for high grades. A 2200 is a better borderline. Past a 2200, it is hard to improve.

I agree that it is completely possible to get a 2100 with prep. The thing is getting much higher than that is going to be difficult, especially if you started out fairly low. 1800 is decently high though, so a 2100 should definitely be within your reach. Probably a 2200 as well if you work extra hard.

A 2200 is "impossible" for people who start out in the 1400-1600 range. It's not really impossible, but the chances of someone in that range getting that score is almost nil.

I agree. But don't think it will come easy. Many people ask if its possible to do something like this, but they usually don't succeed. A few hours studying a week isn't going to cut it. An hour or 2 a day may not even cut it. Most people who start off with a low score put in hundreds of hours before they manage a 2100+.

Even I, the great khoitrinh, had to put in 2 whole hours of studying before I managed my first 2200+.

^ people who score 1800-1900 after lengthy studying might have difficulty going past 2200+. people who score 1800-1900 without prep can easily score 2200+ after prep and work.

"You ought to be ashamed of yourself kho- 2 hours, thats obviously pathetic."

Yes I know it was pathetic. I only did a single practice test from the BB. Thats what I get for trying to follow the time constraints of the SAT. I did the first 4 sections in 25 mins each because that's how long I'm supposed to take. Then I just gave up on being normal and do the remaining 6 sections in 20 mins.

I'd have to disagree with Quix. If you've already been studying for months and manage an 1800-1900, I don't think it'll be very easy raising it even further to a 2100. After all, if you get between 1800-1900 after lengthy studying, you probably started out even lower.

But if you got an 1800 without or with little studying, I'm sure that with work you can bring it up to a 2100. Perhaps higher.

It's really not that hard, even for a CR deficient person like me.
On the Oct exam, I have a pretty good chance of getting 650 CR, 750 M, and 700 W.

i think with enough training, anyone can score anything. i started in the 1400s and on the real one i got 2010. now i am getting mid 2000's and sometimes above 2100 on practice tests.

If people who scored in the 2100-2400 range were gifted, then anyone who scored even just a little bit above 2100 could theoretically just study a little harder to score 2390 or even 2400, but the truth is that they still cannot. People who score in the 2100 score there because that was just how well they did on that test. I honestly don't think anyone can score a 2400 without at least studying a little bit and taking some practice tests.

You need to be exceptionally smart to break 2100. I mean a genius. Hard work and prep mean nothing. GENIUS! Why else do you think I got it? I mean like 2100 isn't even that good, everyone says you need 2200+ now OMG
