Just wondering… does anyone know anyone who was rejected last year but won finalist or merit/HM this year?

It’s rather whirlwind, isn’t it? we’ve waited weeks for this information and it’s only been a few hours and already we are waiting again to hear if we’ve made it through another hoop. I would have filled the RSVP form immediately if I knew I only had a few hours to guarantee a place at the regional.

I mean. they emailed us when 99% of us are in classes and not really supposed to be checking our phones.

Now I know why I didn’t even get merit watch this video and see what you thought was wrong - YouTube

ugh yeah x__ x
I also had a NHS meeting afterschool, delaying my time to apply to the regional. It’s really not ideal for them to email us during school - I only knew I got the email from them when I checked to see if I correctly sent my homework to my AP english teacher :

Nothing for my daughter in music composition. but one of her friends is one of only 5 male finalists for musical theatre! So thrilled for him!

BTW… had to look in the junk folder for the rejection letter if anyone is still looking for one

I emailed YA re: regional programs and wait lists. This is the response I recieved:

Because of the address you entered in your application, you are considered a New York Regional participant. Therefore you have RSVP’d that you will be attending, not that you are being placed on the waitlist. The waitlists are for those winners who are not located in a region. We give them an opportunity to be placed on the waitlist in case space opens up within a program. Also, had you been placed on a waitlist, the invitation as well as the email response would have stated so.

The forms will be sent to you on December 2, which once you complete them you will be firmly confirming your participation in the program.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Ahhh so it’s regarding the region??
Ugh I guess living 5-6 hours away from NY doesn’t cut it for me haha

@Shidarius This is my honest opinion. I have taken acting classes and have seen good and bad acting. You have the projection and articulation down, but your body language is distracting and I don’t understand what emotion you’re trying to convey. Maybe take it down a notch for next year.

Yeah my teacher said the same it’s because I’m a theatre actor I was named best actor in southeast back in March but yeah I think I over did it but I think I was very hard to see I couldn’t see my face barely

Sorry for bumping this thread up, but does YA notify the teacher(s) you put on your application? I also read something about them giving your school a plaque with all the winners’ names, but not sure if that was for this year or last year.

Has anyone else received emails from colleges indicating that YoungArts had notified them that student was a finalist? My son just got one from Columbia, which was pretty exciting, but we hadn’t realized that would be happening

@glasshours every year, schools receive a plaque in the mail with winning students’ names, but not until the end of the year (around May). teachers of finalists have been notified already (via email).

@our4kids my school did not receive anything but that’s probably because I’m already at university

:"> Oops

:">

Just got an email from youngarts indicating that there is space for me to attend the NYC regional.
I just saw that it starts at 3pm and lasts till 9:30… what do the out of state students usually do? Stay at a hotel and travel to the program everyday?

Thanks, @FScott!

@winterbi - The email made it sound like there was a designated hotel for YoungArts participants close by, but not sure. I’m going to the NYC regional too, what’s your discipline? :)

@glasshours Visual Arts! How about you?

I’m just so confused about the accommodations since I don’t know if they expect many of their participants near the program to still attend school during the day and then come to the program? Since they said we would mainly be busy from 3 to 9:30pm.

I would also have to notify my school that I would be missing 5 days if I do choose to go to this program… where did you read about the hotels for YoungArts participants?
