YoungArts 2014-2015

@winterbi‌ - Instrumental! I’m a commuter, but I still need to skip school; I think they expect most people to skip, because even my friends who live in the city skipped to attend YA week. I’m honestly not sure how missing 5 days of school is going to fare for me, because AP exams are the week after…

It was one of the rules in the form - “Participants staying in the hotel must adhere to curfews. Participants will be advised of curfew by Resident Advisor or authorized YoungArts staff person daily. All YoungArts participants must be in their rooms by curfew. This rule is strictly enforced. Failure to adhere to curfew is grounds for dismissal from the program.”

I’m pretty sure that the commuter forms are different from the OOS participant forms, so it’s probably specified in your form, but that made it sound like there was one hotel for YoungArts participants with a specific staff person.

I’m going to the NYC regional. I live in manhattan and will be a commuter. I didn’t receive any forms about times or hotels. I was just sent and email and a link to fill out all my information and send in my insurance forms and birth certificate, etc by 12/16 which I did. Was there something I missed?

@glasshours‌ Thanks much for that response!
I guess I had skipped over that part…? I’m gonna have to ask my guidance counselor if I could get excused for skipping 5 days… I had already missed 2 and a half weeks of school when I had to suddenly visit my family in South Korea.

it’d be nice to know what hotel etc so I can see much it’d be total for me to attend the program :[

@songbird16‌ I have gotten the out of state form (I am in the MD region), so I think what you got is different the form that I have received.

I havd APs the following week :frowning: ugh!
I go to school in Lincoln. center I’m
hoping the YA venues for voice might be nearby. happy to be excused from school early !

@songbird16‌ - I’m a commuter too, so I got the same form as you; hotels weren’t mentioned (obviously), but at the end, there was a picture of a general schedule that outlined all the times.

Do you guys know if we would be possible to room up with someone else to make the accommodations more cheap?

So a hotel is assigned but participants have to pay for it?

Or do we decide where we want to stay for the duration of the program?

So I called YoungArts and was told that (regarding the Miami program) all of the participants who come from OOS will be hosted by YoungArts in a nearby hotel but you must for pay the flight. I’m guessing it’s the same for all programs but you’d have to check to make sure.

@AlexRarez‌ I don’t think that’s an offer for the regional programs, only YoungArts week in January in Miami for finalists. I might be wrong but my understanding is that you must pay for your own travel and accommodation to take part in a regional program.

@songbird16‌ that was my understanding also but when I called I talked to the woman I had previously spoken to about the Regional Programs and this the information she gave me. I understand Finalists receive an all-expenses paid trips, while she made it very clear that out-of-region participants must pay airfare.

Does anyone know how the $500 participation award is going to work?

Anybody else attending YoungArts Miami?
