Ahhh I’m so scared…I don’t expect to make it to Miami, but the little shimmer of hope is going to kill me.

I hate that people are notified at different times…if you don’t get that call first, then you know you’re not a finalist :((
Oh well…we can keep hoping, right? [-O<

Hey guys! I applied for visual arts this year! Best of luck to you all!

I cannot wait to find out the results :o

Hey, everyone! I entered the Spoken Theatre category for YoungArts, and just found this thread. I wish everyone here all the success in the world as you guys pursue your arts. I really hope to win some type of award as well as the next gal, but not winning anything will push us even further to improve.Plus, I’m from the state of New York so I’m in an extremely talented pool!

November first . . . The wait is real. Come on YoungArts let somebody know of already!

Time to join twitter.

Hi everyone! I better you are all like me and sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the finalists to be announced!

This was my first year applying (I’m a sophomore) so I’m really nervous!

Also, does anyone know if the finalists are weighed heavily in favor of the applicants from the YoungArts areas (NYC, Miami, etc.)? Coming from PA, I’ve realized that it is rare for a person from PA to be recognized even in the lower levels, especially for visual arts!

Do you know if the program recognizes more realism or idealistic art? I submitted 5 oil paint landscapes and 5 realistic portrait drawings.

Please let us know if anyone gets notified! I hope everyone has success pursuing their disciplines!

@OverInfinity I’m 70% sure all applicants are anonymously judged, so there’s no bias in account of geographic location (I’m iffy with the other 30% since I only applied for writing…) However, I’m also sure that those in NYC, Miami, etc. tend to have higher amounts of winners due to the fact that–unfortunately for those not in those areas–have more expansive opportunities for visual arts, literary arts, and performing arts. (For example, with me, since I’m from a relatively small state, there is a very limited amount of art schools–I never had any extensive and formal education in writing until this summer; I just practiced like crazy for years, and finally constructed a portfolio!) Plus, I also think another contributing factor may be the fact that those areas tend to have higher applicants since the regional programs are concentrated in those areas, too. No need to worry!
I don’t know exactly if YA tends to lean towards realism or more on the verge of idealism, since I didn’t apply for visual arts. What advice I can give is checking out what won a place in YA from previous years to get an idea of what they’re looking for. Things like, checking out their Youtube channel to view the 2014 YoungArts Artist exhibitions from recent winners, or viewing last year’s list of winners and looking up their portfolios/publications, and henceforth (I did the same thing for viewing the 2014 Writer’s Readings, which was incredibly helpful). There’s an anthology from YA that features past winner’s photography, writing, and artwork, available on the website Blurb. I don’t think it necessarily matters whether or not it’s realism or idealistic; I get the vibe that YA is just looking for overall proficiency, excellence, and originality (taken straight off the website, lol :)>-)
I hope I helped! Good luck! :0

According to my Twitter investigations, finalists should start being notified tomorrow (if YoungArts is following the same timeline as last year). I applied for spoken theatre and playwriting. I’m so nervous! [-O<

@16elir Eeee, hopefulllly–this is super never-racking. Good luck!

The day is nigh… @-) Good luck guys!

So do you guys think they’ll start calling tomorrow? It seems like they call on Sundays…

I am so scared guys. I hope I get something. I literally did my audition video 10x for it to be perfect. AHHHH!

Omg I’m not going to be able to breathe tomorrow!

Possibly… maybe. I don’t know. Last year and previous years, they called during the weekdays during the middle of the week or on Monday-- while I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, it definitely deviates from last year, too. I also sent an email, just to check in though. Hopefully they’ll be a reply soon :3

when do they usually call piano finalists?

@britatos You mean you sent YoungArts an email to ask them what date they will call finalists this year?

@cherryli2015 Yep! :)

I know last year some merit winners got notice from mail at around Nov 20th. It took them several weeks to notify all winners. I am guessing they might do not have enough resource to finish noticing everyone in a short period. If that is the case, why bother to call each individual finalist? Sending an email to every winner only takes several minutes. Or just post the name list on the website, and then everyone gets to know at the same time.

@cherryli2015 I 100% agree.
