Youngarts 2019-2020

Tbh I wouldn’t fret too much, I personally know 8 other people with really solid portfolios who applied for visual arts and 1 for design and they all have not heard back yet.

Any news on anybody’s discipline?!

Does anyone know if singer/songwriter finalists were notified?

Finalist(s) in Jazz category seems being notified on 11/13-11/14.

If they’re finishing finalist notifications next week does that mean they’ll start hm/merit next week too? Or the week after?

@hihelloo they send out emails to hm/merit in the week of thanksgiving

@anarthoe I have not heard (via social media) of any winners in the pop music or singer/songwriter category. That doesn’t mean they aren’t out there, but I have not personally heard of any calls going out in those categories yet. I have heard of a few jazz music winners so calls have at least started for that category. Good luck! Hang in there everyone!

If there is anybody here that entered visual arts then feel free to contact me by the way. We can comfort each other when we get rejected lmaoo

I mostly do drawing/painting but I dont care if you do sculpture or something else

@onepiecefreak16 I’m a visual artist if you have a snap we can comfort each other because I’m in the same boat ??lol

Tommorow is going to be a definite sign on what might happen throughout the week. It’s going to be interesting to see people notified on social media.

@onepiecefreak16 i also submitted for visual arts! most of my portfolio was mixed media + wall installations that probably didn’t meet youngarts’ standards since they tend to favor large pieces for their exhibitions

@anarthoe @onepiecefreak16 do you guys have instagram?

@AmyIzzy very interesting I still don’t know the dynamics of how they decide who to call. Because it seems they are calling sporadically through disciplines.

@remi01 I also did not submit any big pieces unfortunately. My instagram is momodraws_

@anarthoe I do not have a snapchat but I pretty much have anything else lol if you have something else let me know

@onepiecefreak16 just followed you!

Can someone explain like the different tiers of winners. Like finalist, honorable mention, and merit. What is the difference between honorable mention and merit winners?

@anarthoe you can find that on the YoungArts site, in the FAQ:

https://www.youngarts.org/faq

Recognition Levels
Merit: The YoungArts Merit award level recognizes work that has been deemed as commendable by the panel, strong technically with a clear artistic point of view.
Merit winners receive a medallion and are invited to participate in a regional program, space permitting.
Honorable Mention: The YoungArts Honorable Mention award level recognizes work that demonstrates exceptional technique; a strong sense of artistry; and a depth of thinking/performance that exceeds the level of peers at this career stage.
Honorable Mention winners receive a medallion, a $250 monetary award, and are invited to participate in a regional program, space permitting
.
Finalist: The YoungArts Finalist award recognizes work that demonstrates exceptional technique; a strong, sophisticated, nuanced, and clear artistic point of view; and a depth of thinking/performance that far exceeds the level of peers at this career stage.

Finalists receive a medallion, and are invited to participate in National YoungArts Week. During National YoungArts Week participants have the opportunity to be mentored by the panel in person and will have their work further evaluated and recognized as one of the following: Level 3$1,000; Level 2 $1,500; Level 1 $3,000; Silver $5,000; and Gold $10,000. In addition, Finalists who meet eligibility requirements are considered for nomination to the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Finalists are also invited to participate in a regional program, space permitting*.

*Winners may only participate in one regional program in their lifetime.

@Barnwellbaby thank you! I didn’t realize how much money they give out for finalists.

@AmyIzzy The voice category encompasses classical, jazz, popular voice and singer/songwriter and there are about 20 finalists. That would mean there are approximately 5 per group but it could also mean that there could be 1 or 2 per group. That would make sense why people haven’t really heard of finalists from pop music or singer/songwriter, perhaps there are just a few that haven’t posted. Last year there were 4 popular voice and 5 singer/songwriter finalists.
