Wow, 6-10%, that’s close to Ivy acceptance ratio! And I believe that the applicants are all very good at what they do. This is indeed a very tough competition.
Hey for the musicians on this thread, this was posted on the other YA thread a little bit ago. Keep us posted if anyone gets a call or email!
I’m a teacher, and this is the email they sent me yesterday:
This message is to inform you that we are notifying YoungArts winners by phone or email this week. Please note that the complete list of 2019 winners of all award levels (Finalists, Merit, and Honorable Mention) will be posted on our website on Wednesday, November 28.
UPDATE! They must be notifying differently this year. My D just got an email that she won Merit in Jazz voice. I don’t know if that means Finalists have already been called and also don’t know if that means it’s the only category she won in…but she just got that email.
Congrats to your D @SpartanDrew !
@SpartanDrew Congrats to your D!!!
Congrats @ SpartanDrew! I am one of the lucky ones to have seen your daughter’s talent on video and I really thought she’d be a finalist this year. As you said earlier, you just never know what they are looking for. But I’m glad she was recognized again this year. She really stands out as an artist.
My daughter just received an email saying she won Honorable Mention in Popular Voice! She RSVP’ed right away to get on the list for the Regional Program (I assume that would be NYC for us?) She’s so excited!! Thank you to @SpartanDrew for informing us about this amazing competition. We are so thrilled. I guess it pays off to submit at 11:58pm (2 minutes before the deadline) under the most stressful of conditions. Lol.
I am so thrilled for your D @AmyIzzy! She will love the Regional if she makes the cut. It’s an amazing program!
@AmyIzzy and @SpartanDrew - congrats to your very talented and hardworking daughters! I hope they get to meet at the NY Regionals. Nothing for our daughter - which means that I won’t be able to talk her into using any of those tapes for her college pre-screens. I don’t know a ton about music, but I thought they sounded good…but not good enough for Miss Perfectionist.
She is looking forward to possibly participating in the LA Spotlight Program - which has yet to be announced.
@tripletmama I’m really shocked your daughter didn’t get an email. I know you mentioned the scramble to get the videos sent by the deadline and she submitted a bit after the deadline. Is it possible they’d be that picky about the deadline? My daughter submitted a minute before the deadline so thank goodness she made it just on time. Talk about stress overload watching those videos load so slowly! It’s possible YoungArts are still notifying, but I’m glad your daughter has the LA Spotlight Program to look forward to. She’s amazing!
I think those notifications are still going out to the winners @tripletmama. I will be stunned if your D isn’t on that list. The only thing I can think of is they may only take a handful of bass players but even if that’s the case I have to believe your D will be one of them. I think more will come out today and tomorrow. I honestly do not understand why they don’t just release the entire list at this point. Makes zero sense.
Thanks @SpartanDrew - oddly, I’m more stressed than my daughter. She doesn’t seem to care…
The way they are notifying (no rhyme of reason) kind of reminds me of last summer (1.5 years ago). Our son was at the School of American Ballet - and no lie - they ask ballet dancers to stay to their full-time program one at a time over a FIVE WEEK PERIOD. Can you even imagine? We all think that 1-3 days is bad? Our son was asked on the last week! I seriously thought he was going to have a nervous breakdown (he wanted it so badly - it’s his dream company/school). By the time he was asked we all had given up and he had decided to move onto Plan B (which was not a bad option). And then BAM - he was asked. I think it’s always hard when student’s are subjected to waiting for results for a prolonged period of time. Three days is a piece of cake!! LOL.
Has anyone been notified about theatre? thanks :))
Do you think they’ve finished notifying all the vocal winners already?
I honestly believe all of those emails went out on Wednesday and the only “notifications” that are still happening might be calls to Finalists. When I’ve heard of kids being notified yesterday, when you ask further when the email was sent it’s always been on the 14th but they just found it in their spam folder. I haven’t heard of one kid with an email dated any other day. Has anyone else? It’s not hard to send out mass emails all at once. Calling is different but even Finalists have gotten the emails on the 14th so I really have my doubts that YA is truly “still notifying winners”. Just my opinion based on doing this for the past 3 years with every year the notifications being different.
Daughter has 2 friends who both received phone calls on Thursday about being selected as finalists… Daughter was one of the 2016 winners in Theater
Does anyone know if writers have been notified yet? I’m super nervous, hoping for at least honorable mention but I’m scared that I got nothing. :’-(
I fully believe that all winners emails went out on Wednesday. I don’t know why YA is saying that notifications are still going out. I think finalists may still be getting calls but everyone who won got emails on Wednesday. Check your spam folder.
Thank you! I emailed them and they simply told me that a list of winners would be out on December 2nd, which isn’t very helpful but oh well ??♀️
@SpartanDrew I asked them and they explicitly stated that all emails HAVE NOT been sent out yet
@wistfulwords they’ve said a lot of things that aren’t true and I think that isn’t true. Every winner I know of had the email dated the same on the 14th. They’ve also said the list will go out on the 28th, then the first then something else. It’s beyond frustrating.
