YoungArts 2019

Bummer for all involved…

I still wonder, though— if all the other winners (merit and hm) got emails, do they just have finalists left to call? Since they keep on saying they’re still notifying winners ? Guess I can’t stop from still hoping ?

So are all winners notified yet, are they doing it in batches? I hope they aren’t done yet, there is no update on their website…

My daughter is an HM in writing. Her notification (dated 11/14) said “The 2019 winners’ announcement and press release will be made on November 28, 2018.” So for anyone still wondering, the mystery should be solved then.

Hoping that my name will magically appear on that list this Thursday! ?

I’ve said it all along and I still stand by my comment that for whatever reason YA has not been truthful. Unless someone show me a winner’s email dated other than 11/14, I fully believe all winner’s were emailed in mass on that date. Likely calls to finalists took several days but it makes no sense to email winners sporadically over days when one of the deciding factors on getting into a regional is the time stamp on the email to RSVP. I would love to be wrong about this, I truly would. If someone magically finds their name on the winner’s list on Wednesday and they never got an email please let us know!

I strongly suspect you are right @SpartanDrew. When we found my D’s mail in the spam filter a week late it was still sent during that initial wave at 3pm on the 14th. As were the mails of every other person I’ve read about who found a spam mail.

I do have one question about the regional events and how they “quota” for discipline or instrument.

In looking at the videos from last year’s NYC show, it appeared to me that they used the same backing band for all the jazz/vocal performances. Which would lead me to believe they only admit 1 musician for each instrument. Which, given that there can be anywhere from 9-15 HM and Merit level winners per instrument per year, would make the odds of attending pretty low.

Or is it the case that they admit more players per instrument to attend/participate in the week but then only select a sub-set of those kids to perform in the showcase? That would be a bit odd, but would at least increase the odds that a musician on a given instrument could benefit from the workshops and networking even if they don’t get to perform in the showcase. Just curious.

I think it’s one big backing band @DrummerDad18. I’m nearly positive on that. I can ask my D though.

YoungArts list is published. Does anyone know when they notify people about regionals? Will it be as chaotic as the winner notification lol?

Did any HM or Merit winners get an email about regionals? I wonder if they will email either way, whether you get in or not.

That’s what I’m wondering. Is this going to be like winners all over again?

With people guessing when people have been notified, YA saying everyone hasn’t, mails going into spam, lol. I would hope that because it’s a smaller number, they would give everyone a reply, whether they get in or not.

I also read somewhere that you can’t participate in a regional if you have done so before. Is that the case?
Would make sense, to spread the experience around.

Also curious if they just automatically take HM over Merit within a discipline when spots are super limited or whether it’s more evenly distributed between those groups.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
I will say its fun reading through the lists and then looking up the players to see their material online.

Below is what the email said, but I called and YoungArts said they are sending out the emails tomorrow (4/30) to notify winners of whether they get into the Regional week. Let’s hope I got accurate info. I forgot to ask if they get an email either way, but she seemed to imply that.

“To sign up for possible inclusion to the NY program, you must submit your request by Wednesday, November 21, 2018 by clicking on the following link: NY Sign Up. Acceptance into the program is based off of your geographical location and discipline/category. Determinations will be made by November 29 and you will be notified of your status via email.”

Oh boy, shortly after my phone call we get this:

Dear Winners and Parents,

We are writing to you today as you have signed up for possible inclusion into a regional program. We have received many phone calls and emails from winners who did not receive their notification which contained instructions on how to submit a request to attend a regional program. To be fair to all, we are extending the deadline to sign-up and will therefore delay notifying you of your status.

The new date winners will be notified of their status for inclusion into a regional program will now be by the end of the day on Friday, December 7, 2018.

We, along with your fellow winners, thank you for your patience and understanding during this extended process.

Congrats to the kids that made the cut for the regionals!! You will have an amazing experience!
