to all the '09 commodores, what classes did you sign up for?

i have bio 110 and 111, chem 102, 104 and 106, math 150, and geol 115f, which works out to 14 hours.

I have :
Math 155a, Chem 102, 104, 106, ES 140, and Philosophy 100W.
what section did you sign up for in chem?

i did 102 section 4, 104 section 5, and 106 section 29. you?

as a sidenote: i have a question about calc 150 vs. 155. can you take (or have you heard of anyone taking) 155 without taking calc in high school? i'm pretty sure i could handle 155 as long as you aren't expected to come in with a foreknowledge of calculus. thanks.

I did 102 section 1, 104 section 8 and 106 section 1.

I'm sure you can handle it too. If you had calculus in high school, AP or whatever, it's probably the same stuff again. I dunno whether you would get bored or what. I really don't know; I signed up for it because I'm in engineering and it's required.

do you know how many people are in your classes?

how do you find out how many people are in classes?

i think that i'm going to ask my adviser in fall whether i should switch into 155 or not. thanks for the help.

tell me once you know :)

Are those our final schedules on that link you provided?

I don't see why not. why?

I've got:

ES 140 (sec. 1)
Math 175 (section ?)
ES 101: Seminar: Engineering Ethics (Sec. 4)
ECON 101 (Microecon.)
Phys 116B (Electicity and Magnetism)

14 hours for me as well, although I have much more through APs.

I signed up for a freshman seminar (frontiers in mechanical engineering) but don't see it on my schedule. Does this mean I got closed out of it? ughh.

That's why I think all class registration should be done online.

It is once you are a current student through OASIS.

Incidentally,
CS 258. Computer Graphics
MATH 226. Intro to Numerical Mathematics
MATH 200. Intensive Problem Solving
CS 231. Computer Organization
MATH 280. Set Theory

Not surprisingly, I'm a CS/Math major.

You theoretically don't have to have experience with calculus to do well in 155ab-175. You do need to be type of person who "gets" math easily, which is why its the math for engineers as opposed to 150ab-170ab.

are you sure that that is the final schedule? i got everything exactly as I signed up for it, which seems weird. Also, what is the biggest room on campus? because my bio class has 241 students, which seems like a ton...

If i decide that I want to switch to calc 155 instead of 150, do you guys know who I am supposed to talk to? Do I need to call, or do I just wait until fall orientation?

Also, could you tell me if you think I would do okay in 155? I got a 770 SAT Math, I didn't take a math SAT II, got a 19 out of 20 on the Vanderbilt departmental test, got all A's in math throughout high school and my highest level math class having anything to do with calculus is precalculus. I'm just curious as to whether you think I'd be able to do it. And one more question: do you think med schools would prefer 155 to 150 or is it a non-issue?

anyways, here is how many people are in my classes:
BSCI 110A 02 - 241
BSCI 111A 01 - 70
CHEM 102A 04 - 205
CHEM 104A 05 - 62
CHEM 106A 29 - 27
MATH 150A 12 - 90
GEOL 115F 01 - 15

Did everyone else get in the exact classes (time and everything) that they requested? I hope that this is the real schedule!

PS - thanks for the link ecnerwalc

I got the same classes I requested.

Is a class over two hundred people considered large or average for an intro level course?

i found this website where you can find what your mailbox address is...

https://phonedirectory.vanderbilt.edu/cdb/

you have to log in first, then type in your own name

Is the address in Vandy P.O. Box?

This is how the address goes:

VU Station B ####
Nashville TN 37235

I can't remember the exactly number but Stevenson 4309, Wilson 103, and Furman 114 are the biggest lecture rooms on campus and all three can hold upwards of 300 students (I don't know about Furman, though). Anyway, many intro level classes at Vandy are big like (things like econ 100 and 101, psyche 101, Chem 101, 102, Bsci 110 and so forth)

You don't have to worry until fall. You can just go to the math office and drop down if you think you need to during the first few weeks (FYI, math and language classes have longer drop/add periods then normal classes).

You'll do just fine. The math in 155 isn't harder than the math in 150, the former is just at a faster place than the latter (and 155 is a four-hour class). From my experience and in my opinion, 150-170 go into much more theoretical depth while 155-175 do more practical applications (lots of engineering), but again that's just my opinion.

I doubt med schools care which one you take as long as you have a year of calculus.

wow, thanks for the detailed response! all hail feenotype!
